Day One

Fly to Italy and make the scenic transfer to Limone, on Garda's western shores. Colourful and bustling, with cobbled streets leading down to the lakeside, Limone - which is named after the terraced citrus groves on the surrounding hills - is a perfect holiday resort, with lively evenings to complement relaxed, sun-blessed days.

Day Two

Get to know beautiful Lake Garda on today's included coach tour around its sun-kissed shores. Hemmed in by steep hillsides on its eastern shore, backed by the craggy peaks of the Dolomites to the north, and surrounded on its western shores by vineyards and olive groves, which in turn give way to the tree-lined southern shore, the lake is the setting for several attractive resorts, at some of which you'll call during an enjoyable day.

Day Three

Today's unmissable optional excursion is to incomparable Verona, on the banks of the River Adige. Highlights include Italy's best preserved Roman amphitheatre, famed for its Opera Festival, the sweeping Piazza Bra, crowded with folk watching the world go by from a seat in one of the numerous pavement cafes, and the maze of 13th-century streets that were backdrop to Shakespeare's tale of "Juliet and her Romeo".

Day Four

Bid farewell to Garda's shores, journeying into the Dolomites, with their jagged peaks and green meadows, passing wine-producing Bolzano and heading into Austria and your Tyrolean base in Fugen, at the entrance to the Alpine paradise of the Zillertal. In a picture-postcard-perfect scene of green pastures dotted with farms and forests, backed by distant peaks. Fugen is a popular hiking and 'wellness' centre, boasting thermal baths, open-air swimming pool and a cable car in addition to shops, bars and cafes.

Day Five

Today's included excursion brings the opportunity to discover Imperial Innsbruck, the Tyrolean capital, with its historic old town, or Altstadt, and famous Maria-Theresien-Strasse, the elegant main street. Don't miss the famous 'Golden Roof', the copper-tiled covering above the window from which the Kaiser would look down on the royal tournaments in the square below, and be sure to stop for 'coffee and cake' at one of the city's countless cafes.

Day Six

The last of the included excursions is to beautiful Salzburg, birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, forever associated with the movie 'The Sound of Music'. Enjoy a walking tour of this Baroque treasure trove, after which you can explore at your own pace. Don't miss the Castle, which towers 400 feet above the city, and offers wonderful views, nor the exquisite Dom cathedral. Connections with Mozart are everywhere - from the Mozartplatz with its famous Glockenspiel clock, to the composer's birthplace and his family home (entrances payable locally).

Day Seven

A last day is free to enjoy the delights of Fugen, although many will want to join the optional excursion to the Hintertux Glacier, including a journey on the Tuxer Fernerhaus gondola to the dizzy heights of 2660 metres and the mountain restaurant, with its wonderful views of the Zillertal Alps and the peaks beyond.

Day Eight

Make the scenic journey either back across the Brenner Pass to Italy, or north into Bavaria and Munich, from where you'll return to the UK.

Overall holiday very good. Unfortunately tour manager was not good she didn't have much knowledge of the places we visited. The day we visited Innsbruck it was a public holiday and most of the shops were closed. People on the trip all agreed that she should have known this and the trip should have been rearranged for another day. It was a wasted day. The staff at both hotels very nice and friendly and the resorts were very pretty and worth the visit.

Lake Garda is lovely so too is the Austrian Tyrol but to combine them in one holiday means too much travelling in the coach. The trip to Innsbruck was good not too long a journey to get there and a very interesting city.
