One of northern Europe’s most iconic destinations, there’s no better way to explore the largest country in the Nordics than with a Sweden cruise.

With everything from midnight sun to the Northern Lights to enjoy, as well as a chance to disembark and discover amazing highlights like the Viking Ship Museum and the cobbled streets of the Gamla Stan in Stockholm, a cruise around Sweden is so much more than setting sail on the open water.

With Newmarket Holidays Sweden cruises, you have a wide range of itineraries to choose from. Because the country is so close, it’s perfect for short breaks too - there are plenty of mini cruises to Sweden from the UK. Aside from the rugged north and sophisticated capital, you can also discover the wild delights of the Baltic Sea.

Sweden cruises also often mean being able to see some of this geographical region’s most impressive sights, like the neighbouring Norwegian fjords, and the fairytale-like capital of Estonia, Tallinn. To top it all off, on your Scandinavian cruise you’ll have a chance to sample Sweden’s innovative and world-beating culinary culture. What more could you want?

Food and Drink

Inglad Sill is a Swedish delicacy

Sometimes just known as Sill, it is pickled herring which is usually consumed around times of celebration. The flavour is certainly strong, but each chef has their own special brining mix that makes every portion slightly different.

After stuffing yourself at one of Stockholm’s top establishments, a shot of Brännvin (translating to ‘burnt-wine’) will help it all go down. A classification that includes vodka, as well as other spirits, it’s also the perfect drink to put a little fire in your belly on those cold Scandinavian nights.

Despite their chic style and high-end cuisine, you can’t go on a Sweden cruise and not try the local dish that the country was once so well known for: meatballs.
