It’s a wonderful time for solo travel. Some years ago, the thought of hopping on a plane, ship, train without a travel companion might have drawn an uncomfortable amount of questions from friends, family, and maybe even that little part of yourself. But since the wave of solo travellers and solo holidays began coursing through the travel industry in 2018, this form of exploration has been difficult to turn away from.
With Newmarket Holidays, you have the freedom to book a spot on one of our escorted tours - cruises included - as a single traveller. But more recently, we have devised a selection of specially-curated solo tours to destinations we know you will love. Whether you fancy a trip to the glimmering peaks of the Dolomites or you have always dreamed of seeing the medieval square of Krakow, our solo tours incorporate extra benefits and special arrangements that will help you to feel right at home while you’re seeing more of the world. Even if it’s your first experience with solo travel and you’re not quite used to travelling without your partner, best friend, or sibling who seems to have ticked off more travel destinations than you have.
On an escorted solo tour carefully (and imaginatively) designed by Newmarket Holidays, you can always anticipate comfort, quality and value. That's a given. But there are also those small things that help to make the trip as unforgettable as it should be. For example, welcome drinks, so you can get to know the other adventurous people on the trip, as well as lively dinners, informal get-togethers, and exciting, explorative activities.
If you’re curious about the accommodation when you’re travelling solo, you can expect a twin or double bedroom just for you. So, at the end of a thrilling day exploring the attractions of a colourful travel destination, you can wind down with an evening of rest and relaxation in your own company. Fancy meeting up with some fellow travellers? You’ve got the option to do that too. After indulging in some relaxation at your hotel, you can head out to enjoy the company of newfound friends. And that’s why we think you will enjoy our solo tours - you get the best of both worlds. You will find yourself meeting interesting people from all over the world, while also being able to enjoy precious time for yourself.
With more solo travellers joining our tours than ever, we’re delighted to announce that we now offer even more single-occupancy rooms and cabins across all our tours, as well as a selection of holidays exclusively for single travellers to some wonderful destinations.
Discover the sights, sounds and stories of some of the world's most extraordinary and enchanting destinations on one of our carefully crafted solo tours.
Taking your first solo trip? Here's what you might be wondering...
If you’d prefer to stay close to home for your first tour, check out our solo tours in the UK and Ireland. Scottish Highland Railways and The Giant’s Causeway are firm Newmarket Holidays favourites and would be a great starting point.
No, the price listed for solo tours is the price you pay. There are no single supplements on top of this.
You will always have a room of your own on our solo tours. You are never expected to share a hotel room. Most of the time you will receive a double bed or twin beds for sole occupancy, but occasionally hotels offer the option of a single bed at a discount.
Our itineraries offer a mix of included and optional excursions, so you can dip in and out as much or as little as you like. We understand that ‘me time’ is important and you’ll never be forced to join in when you don’t wish to.
Only if this is your preference. Our tour managers host included mealtimes and where meals are not included, make suggestions about restaurants, cafes and bars where the group can dine together if they would like to do so.
Of course not! You should ideally be travelling alone, though. If you’d like to travel with your partner, we have a wide range of non-solo holidays and tours to check out.
The ratio is typically 60% female and 40% male, but this varies from tour to tour. Customers tend to be aged 30+ but more typically 50+
Due to General Data Protection Regulation reasons, we are unable to share this information, but we’re sure you’ll make a friend or two!
The number of people on a solo tour varies, but on average it’s about 25 people.
There certainly are! In 2021, we have Christmas tours to Oxford, Scotland, Switzerland, and more. We look forward to seeing you over the festive period.
