Your Itinerary

Day One: Fly to the Isle of Man

Fly to Isle of Man airport where our coach will transfer you to your hotel in Douglas. Depending on your arrival time, you may have some free time to discover the town. Take the horse-drawn tram along the seafront (operating seasonally), stop for a drink and a bite to eat in one of the cafes and relaxed restaurants around North Quay, or uncover the island's history at the Manx Museum.

Day Two: Ride the Isle of Man Steam Railway to Castletown and Port Erin

Once a complex network that served most of the island, the Isle of Man Steam Railway is now a single 15.5-mile route through woods, request stops, tiny stations and sea views to Castletown. Here you'll have time to walk the battlements of Castle Rushen and see the debating chamber of the island's 19th-century parliament building, before returning to the train to continue your journey to Port Erin.

Once in Port Erin you're free to explore - the beaches and views are glorious, and the Railway Museum is well worth a visit - then return to Douglas by train.

Day Three: Ride the Manx Electric Railway

Today we'll head to Peel on the western side of the island. See the ruins of Peel Castle on its little peninsula on the tip of the marina, or visit the town's Celtic heritage and transport museums before we wind our way through the Manx countryside to Ramsey by bus. Here we’ll board the lovingly maintained Victorian and Edwardian trains of the Manx Electric Railway (MER) for the scenic 17-mile journey to Douglas Derby Castle station.

Day Four: Ride the Snaefell Mountain Railway to the summit of Snaefell

Our second journey on the MER takes us to Laxey, site of the world's largest working waterwheel. Here we'll change lines and ride the Snaefell Mountain Railway through the spectacular scenery to the summit of Snaefell 2000 feet above.

Returning to Douglas you'll have the rest of the day free before your final dinner at the hotel.

Day Five: Fly back to your local airport

Return to the airport and check in for your flight back to mainland UK.

Further Information

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to the hotel is approximately 30 minutes.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Go Explore Heritage Card

Your card offers five days unlimited travel on the Manx Steam Railway, Manx Electric Railway, the Snaefell Mountain Railway and the Douglas Horse Trams (when operating - typically between 30th April and 30th October, with some rest days), plus admission to Manx National Heritage's sites and museums.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. Please note that this holiday is not recommended for customers with limited mobility, as there are steps to get on and off the trains.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Changes to your hotels

Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in alternative hotels, of a similar standard, nearby. Full details of your hotels will be sent with your Final Travel Documents.

Train journeys

In the unlikely event of a steam locomotive breaking down and/or being unavailable on the Isle of Man Steam Railway, we reserve the right to substitute the engine with a diesel locomotive.
