Day One

Fly to Naples, and then make the short journey to Caserta, site of the 'Versailles of Naples' - the vast Royal Palace - to spend your first night in an elegant four-star hotel.

Day Two

Today you'll head south from Caserta. See the unforgettable sights of Matera on an included tour to discover ancient cave-dwellings and churches hewn from the rocks, and then continue to the coast to spend your next four nights in a four-star hotel overlooking the blue Adriatic.

Day Three

Explore the stunning, white-washed hill-town of Ostuni, with its labyrinthine maze of narrow streets, and see famous Alberobello's amazing conical trulli houses, today. There will also be time for some wine-tasting, and to sample local delicacies, during a visit to a vineyard.

Day Four

Today brings the opportunity to rest and relax at your hotel, perhaps enjoying a dip in the pool or the sea, enjoying sun in the hotel's gardens, or curling up with a book.

Day Five

A full-day guided tour will show you the Baroque treasure-chest of Lecce, one of Southern Italy's most appealing cities. Soak up the atmosphere of this historic trading centre with its elegant buildings, ornate churches and marbled courtyards. Explore the old town, which surrounds the ruins of a great Roman amphitheatre, before we return to Torre Canne.

Day Six

Today you will visit Bari - the vibrant Adriatic port and Southern Italy's second city. The jumble of narrow streets in Bari's exquisite Old City is a delight with the stunning Basilica di San Nicola - final resting place of the saint known as 'Santa Claus' the world over - at its heart.

From Bari, you'll continue to the spectacular Gargano peninsula, which towers island-like above the surrounding coastal plains. After a scenic drive along the southern coast road you'll arrive at our final hotel, in the popular resort of Vieste, at the tip of the once isolated promontory. Check in, then perhaps head out to explore the bustling old town, before dinner overlooking the Adriatic in the hotel.

Day Seven

Today's optional excursion brings the opportunity to head along the coast, by boat, and visit some of the region's sea-caves. The Gargano Coastline from Architiello di San Felice to Mattinata is mainly limestone, and is peppered with stunning caves like such as Grotta dei Contrabbandieri (Smuggler's Cave) and Grotta Sfondata (The Great Bottomless Cave).

Day Eight

Further Information

Entrance Fees

Since some attractions visited offer free admission to visitors at certain times of year, we do not include entrance fees. These will be payable locally where applicable. This applies to excursions that are included in the price of your holiday and to excursions booked as optional extras.

Meals in Italy

Guests on half-board arrangements will be served a three-course evening meal, and can expect a first course of traditional pasta or soup, a main meat or fish course accompanied by one or two types of vegetable, and a simple dessert of fruit, cake or Italian ice cream. Breakfasts will usually consist of bread rolls, jam, cereal, ham, cheese, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Menus will vary from hotel to hotel, but choice will be more limited than in a normal restaurant. In some instances, individual guests who have booked with the hotel independently may be offered a different menu from those who are staying at the hotel as part of a package tour.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from Naples Airport to Caserta is approximately 45 minutes. On your return journey, the transfer time back to Naples Airport is approximately four hours and it is approximately two-and-a-half hours to Bari Airport.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Italian hotel room tax

Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 € and 3 € per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your tour manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Whilst we enjoyed Puglia both the hotels and the tour manager left something to be desired. The hotel in Caserta raised our expectaptions, but they were not met by those in Ostuni and Vieste. Both were remote from local facilities. The tour manager was put in a difficult position, replacing the existing manager due to her father's death. Whilst he escorted the tour well, he left us to guide ourselves. We feel this was not the guided tour we expected, and if we had known this beforehand we would have done a lot more research before the tour to get the most out of it.

It was not worth starting at Naples, meaning we had a long bus ride to the main holiday centre. We had too little time at the some good places (Lecce, Matera, Bari) and too long at tourist trap Alberobello and unnecessary Caserta. The Gargano Peninsula boat trip and Vieste were enjoyable and food at the Grand Hotel Masseria (not to be used next year) was excellent, particularly compared to the dullness of Grand Hotel Vanvitelli's catering and the decent food at the Hotel Delle More. Our tour guide got us around but gave us little local knowledge and morning departures were too late to get to some of the excellent sights that closed at around noon. Our driver was excellent and blameless for the long bus rides.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this holiday, a part of Italy we had never seen. The driver and tour Guide were excellent . The food at all hotels was good and considering the demands of mass catering very good! The staff at all hotels were helpful and extremely pleasant.
A few points that could be taken into consideration-
The coach journey from Caserta to Ostuni was too long, the visit to Maserta was marred because nothing was open. Maybe this could have been an excursion from Ostuni?
The Hotel at Ostuni was isolated and had it not been for the enterprise of the guide we would have been trapped! Fortunatelty the weather was good on that day. Also the bar prices at this Hotel were stupidly inflated.
The Holiday would have been improved had we flown to Bari rather than Naples. Those who flew from Stansted were fortunate as they ended up with two extra days holiday - even if they did have to get up at ridiculous o'clock! The day around Caserta was most interesting.
Some thought needs to be given to visits to towns as in this area of Italy they close promptly at 1.00p.m. and you can end up wondering aimlessly from one closed attraction to another!I I felt that charging 10 Euros for a sea view and a further 10 to remain in the room before transfer was out of order in the final Hotel - the Hotel had only 2 other guests and was closing for their winter break after we left. There was no rush to valet the rooms. However I really enjoyed the trip and comments are meant to be constructive not just critical.

Portchester Hants. Couple
very dissapointing too much time travelling in coach. First day we were travelling for 8 hours. Would have been far better if we had flown to Bari airport. Second hotel had seeen better days. Meal times were not great food cold . Prices in the bar were twice the price as other hotels. £10 for a pint of beer. The rep didnt tell us anything about the region we were in . We spent most of our time killing time. (far too long in some towns).

The tour manager was disappointing, no guided tour of Leave, limited knowledge of places visited,no info or very little given whilst travelling, not up to Newmarket usual standard, will consider looking at other companies next year.

We had only returned from the Carcassione trip with yourselves around three weeks earlier, and l would say we had one of the best tour managers ever had, Gavin, as he was so good, incredible knowledge, made the Puglia holiday information wise seem even worse.

Other suggestion would be to include little bit more variation during excursion, as towns limited things to see,so cut short time in say Vested and Leave and fit it short trip to see, how pasta made orsomething suchlike in local area.
