Cotswolds Holiday Itinerary

Day One: Visit Ironbridge Gorge

Leaving the local area by coach, this morning we'll travel to UNESCO-listed Ironbridge Gorge, where the arched curve of world's first cast-iron bridge stretches across the River Severn. Although currently undergoing vital renovation works, you'll still be able to gain a feel for this extraordinary feat of engineering from a pedestrian platform that is planned to run alongside the bridge. Enjoy some time to explore and perhaps visit the Toll House before we continue our journey to the hotel, arriving in time for dinner.

Day Two: Ride the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway

After breakfast we'll journey through the beautiful Cotswolds countryside to Chipping Campden. Follow the curved high street past ancient buildings and wonderful independent shops, or visit St James' Church to see the oldest altar tapestry in England. Enjoy lunch (payable locally) in one of the town's tea rooms before we continue to nearby Toddington.

From Toddington we ride the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway to Cheltenham station, through the 693-yard Greet Tunnel and past Winchcombe Station (whose buildings have been transplanted, stone by stone, from Monmouth Troy in Wales). Your 40-minute journey winds through some unforgettable countryside, with views of the Malvern Hills and Vale of Evesham, so keep your camera handy.

Day Three: Visit Bourton-on-the-Water and travel home

This morning you'll visit Bourton-on-the-Water. Stroll along the banks of the Windrush, past the low-arched stone bridges that gave the town its "Little Venice" nickname. See St Lawrence's domed tower, visit the Model Railway Exhibition and the Perfume or Motor Car museums, or simply sit in one of the cafes and watch the world go by.

After time for lunch (payable locally), we'll head for home, arriving back in the local area during mid-to-late evening.

Further Information

Iron Bridge

English Heritage has advised that the Iron Bridge is currently undergoing a £3.6 million vital restoration work, and that scaffolding will still be in place during 2018. They have planned a pedestrian walkway to run alongside the bridge and we will still be visiting the site on Day One.

Replacement locomotives

In the event that a steam locomotive is unavailable, GWR reserve the right to substitute the engine with a diesel locomotive.

Coach seating arrangements

Your seats on the main coach will be allocated for you in advance, taking into consideration any special requests wherever possible. Your Tour Manager or driver will advise you where to sit as you board the coach. This will be your seat for the duration of the tour. (Seats are not allocated on any connecting services to and from the main coach.)

Joining your holiday

Your final travel documents, including the exact time and place of departure, will be sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure, providing all payments have been made. We are unable to give exact departure times before this.

Meal arrangements

Where meals are not included, your Tour Manager will ensure there are suitable stops made for you to purchase and enjoy lunch and/or dinner each day.

Triple rooms

The majority of these consist of a double bed and an extra bed that is often only suitable for children. If this is a concern, you may wish to consider booking more than one room for your group.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Swansea Friends
We enjoyed the trip but found Chipping Camden (for 3 hours) a waste of time (just 1 highstreet to walk up and down and a church which was holding a funeral). For that long time we could have stopped at Stratford, which was on the way! The bus was parked a long way from the highstreet which was very difficult for a good number of people! The steam railway wasn't that great either merely a train ride up a few minutes stop and straight back! It didn't give a feeling of nostalgia!! As far as driver and courier is concerned they were alright and certainly didn't make any effort to spend time to communicate with us guests, pity!the hours spent in Bourton on the Water was. Lovely and appreciated by all!!

Yeovil Couple
worst holiday break we have ever had with Newmarket.
A lack of interesting places to visit and those we did see were far too long.

Hendon London A club.
The trip was not cost effective.
Train coaches were very bad. Strong bad smell in the coach and seats are broken and uncomfortable.
Driver was not polite or caring at all, in fact he was very rude. He did not open the back door after requesting few times, it took long time for us to get in and out of the coach. I had a number of elderlies that I have mentioned before and also to the guide. They found difficult to get in and out of the coach.
The places we have visited are nice. This trip should be a one day trip by omitting couple of items. Long free time given to kill the time. Nothing to see there. Very long time we have spent in the coffee shop before the train journey, doing nothing. On the day one we have spent half a day at home. Pickkup was too late.
We had few other trips with Newmarket. This was a worst trip we had.

Very enjoyable though a little disappointed with the train trip. Perhaps we expected more scenery.

The tour guide was fabulous and enjoyed all the trips. The food at the hotel was dreadful and really needs to be improved.
