After a call at vibrant Dutch capital Amsterdam, continue your journey south, stopping to spend a day in British outpost Gibraltar along the way. Calls at Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife add to the pleasures of this wonderful cruise and are followed by an enjoyable day spent in floral paradise Funchal, capital of Portuguese island idyll Madeira. Set sail for home, via Portuguese Leixões – gateway to wine-producing Porto – where you may choose to take an optional tour.

    Board Columbus in Tilbury, today, settle in to your cabin and relax as your cruise begins.

  • Arrive: 0830hrs

    Depart: 1630hrs

    Today you'll be free to explore Amsterdam's canals, flower markets and museums. Wander cobbled streets lined with step-gabled buildings, stop for a drink and a bite to eat in one of the city's many excellent bars, cafes and restaurants, or take to the water on a canal cruise.

  • Arrive: 1200hrs

    Depart: 2100hrs

    Spend today in the very British outpost of Gibraltar, in the shadow of the famous Rock. Search out a bargain on Main Street, or take a cable car to the heights above to see the famous Barbary Apes, and the views across the Straits to North Africa and the Atlas Mountains.

  • Arrive: 1200hrs

    Depart: 2000hrs

    The first of your Canary Islands calls is Arrecife, capital of Lanzarote. Enjoy this sun-baked and colourful holiday isle where black-sand beaches run gently down into warm waters. Why not head to the island's "fire mountain" to take a camel ride to the edge of a volcano?

  • Arrive: 0800hrs

    Depart: 2300hrs

    The great trading port of Las Palmas welcomes Columbus to Gran Canaria, today. Explore modern Puerto de la Luz, or head to the palm-fringed squares of the city's old town, Vegueta. Alternatively, join an optional shore excursion inland to discover some of the island's superb views.

  • Arrive: 0700hrs

    Depart: 1400hrs

    Today is spent on the largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife. Columbus will dock in the principal port of Santa Cruz. Discover the land that boasts 'the whole world in one day' on optional shore excursions that might take you for a swim in warm waters or to throw snowballs on the slopes of Mt Teide; or from the capital's glitzy shopping malls to stunning gardens, banana plantations and forests of giant pines and eucalyptus trees.

    Depart: 1900hrs

    Some 500 miles off the coast of Africa, Madeira is one of the world's most beautiful islands. This sun-blessed subtropical paradise is home to some of the most vibrant and exotic flora on Earth. Relax in Funchal, the island capital, visit the wonderful Botanical Gardens, and perhaps race downhill from Monte to Livramento in a wickerwork 'toboggan'!

  • Arrive: 1200hrs

    Depart: 1900hrs

    The Portuguese port of Leixoes offers the opportunity to join an optional excursion to historic Oporto. Famed the world over for its port wine, "Porto" is perched on the granite cliffs above the River Douro, the two banks linked by some vertigo-inducing bridges. Head into the Ribeira district to visit one of the wine lodges for which the city is world-renowned.

  • Arrive: 0800hrs

    Bid farewell to Columbus and all your fellow travellers, today, as you disembark at the end of your Canary Islands cruise.
