East Coast USA Holiday Itinerary

Day One: Fly to Boston

Fly to Boston, meet your Tour Manager and board the coach to transfer to your hotel.

Day Two: Explore Boston

Discover America's most European city on a fascinating optional guided tour following the famous 'Freedom Trail' through Boston's compact heart. See the gold-domed State House, Boston Common and the cobbled streets of Beacon Hill. Visit colourful Quincy Market, or perhaps cross the Charles River to Harvard University.

Day Three: Journey north through New England to Montreal

Journey, through the leafy countryside of New England, into Canada and to stylish, sophisticated Montreal, the world's second-largest French-speaking metropolis.

Day Four: Spend the day in Quebec City

Today's included excursion takes us to charming Quebec City. Join our local guide to explore the narrow, cobbled alleyways of Vieux-Quebec on an optional tour before we return to the Montreal in the evening.

Day Five: Follow the Maple Leaf Trail to Ottawa

We'll take a short drive around Montreal's main sights, before following the 'Maple Leaf Trail' to Ottawa, Canada's beautiful administrative capital, with its Victorian houses and famous Rideau Canal.

Day Six: Explore Ottawa and travel to Toronto

Discover the Canadian capital on a guided tour, this morning, then board our coach for the drive to Toronto. In this glittering city you'll find the sky-piercing CN Tower, ultramodern shopping malls and countless cafes and restaurants.

Day Seven: See the highlights of Toronto

Explore Toronto, or join our optional guided tour to discover the history of the city and its distinct neighbourhoods - Chinatown, Greektown and Little Italy.

This afternoon, we'll skirt the shores of Lake Ontario as we head to our next hotel close to the mighty torrent of Niagara Falls.

Day Eight: Marvel at the Niagara Falls

See the plunging waters of Niagara Falls for yourself, today. Watch in wonder from 'dry' land, or take our optional helicopter flight for a bird's eye view. There's also the chance to enjoy lunch in a restaurant overlooking the Falls.

Day Nine: Travel south into Pennsylvania and New Jersey

Today you'll cross the bridge that connects Canada with the USA, heading east and south into Pennsylvania to spend the next two nights in New Jersey, just across the Hudson River from New York.

Day 10: Spend the day in New York City

Our coach will take you into the heart of New York, today. Explore on your own, or join our optional city tour to discover a slice of the Big Apple and take in the cityscape from the 70th floor of the Rockerfeller Centre before we return to New Jersey.

Day 11: Visit Philadelphia en route to Washington DC

Heading south, this morning you'll visit the original US capital, Philadelphia. The Declaration of Independence was prepared and first read to the nation here in July 1776. Let an included guided city tour bring the story of America's birth to life before we continue to our final hotel, near Washington DC.

Day 12: Explore Washington

Enjoy a full day in the 'Nation's Capital'. See the domed Capitol building "on the Hill", the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Smithsonian museums and - across the green swathe of the Ellipse - the White House itself on our optional guided tour.

Day 13: Transfer to the airport

A last free morning brings time to relax, and perhaps indulge in a little shopping, before your afternoon transfer to the airport.

Day 14: Arrive home

Arrive back in the UK after an overnight flight.

East Coast Extravaganza Touring Hotels

Further Information

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately one hour.

Passports and visas

When travelling to the USA, British citizens require passports with an integrated chip (shown on the front by a small rectangular symbol beneath the word PASSPORT), valid beyond the return date from the USA. Visas are not normally required for entry, but visitors must apply for an ESTA online with US Immigration at least 72 hours before departure at www.cbp.gov/esta . The current charge is $14 for British Citizens. British subjects and anyone who has a criminal record or has ever been arrested should consult the US Embassy as a visa may be required. Note too that if you have visited Iran, Iraq, Sudan or Syria since March 2011, or have dual nationality with any of these countries, you do require a US visa and cannot travel on the Visa Waiver Program.

Border crossing

Please note there is a US$6 per person charge to cross the border from Canada to the USA. This is payable in cash at the border crossing and is not included in the tour price.

On your flight

All outbound flights depart and arrive on the same day. All return flights leave in the evening and land in the UK the next day. On-board meals will usually include lunch and a snack on outward flights, and dinner and breakfast on the flight home. Soft drinks are complimentary, but some airlines will charge for alcoholic drinks.

Luggage allowance

You are permitted to take one suitcase per person on the aircraft, which should not exceed 23kg.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted on any coach forming part of your holiday, though regular stops will be made for your comfort en route. The majority of hotels in North America are non-smoking throughout, including in all bedrooms. In general smoking outside is acceptable, but do look out for signs prohibiting this close to public entrances or bus stops. Smoking is prohibited, except in designated spaces both indoors and on deck, when on your cruise.

Tipping

Gratuities are a way of life in North America, and it is generally accepted that they form part of a person's earnings. The customary gratuity for a coach driver or Tour Manager is about $5 per person per day. It is normal to tip 15-20 per cent of the bill for a taxi or in a restaurant, and to leave a dollar or so per drink in a bar.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Changes to your hotels

Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in alternative hotels, of a similar standard, nearby. Full details of your hotels will be sent with your Final Travel Documents.

Hotel rooms

Standard hotel rooms in North America will contain one or two double- or queen-sized beds, and it is not possible to add extra beds to the room. Parties consisting of more than two travellers, but who have only booked one room, will be expected to make use of the two beds provided. If this is a concern, you may wish to consider booking more than one room for your group.

*Low deposit of £49 per person applies to new bookings made between 21st June and 31st July 2017 (inclusive) only. This offer only applies to selected air-inclusive holidays. This offer is subject to availability and may be withdrawn at any time.

A great holiday with so many things to do and see that I am still trying to remember them all! With hindsight, it may have been two or three days too long, as I was exhausted by the time I got home - but I wouldn't know what to leave out!
A small point, when we arrived at the hotels, although we were usually given maps and at some were given ideas, two or three ideas of what we could do or where we could go locally to the hotels would have been a bonus. (See below: I only got to see the Bob Dylan concert by going down an unintended street!)

Generally overall a very good holiday. After a 6.5 hour flight the first hotel needs to be closer and near a centre with restaurants and bars not in the middle of nowhere. ( past quite a few on the way) All hotels need to be a minimum of two nights arriving at hotel at 6pm after a 4-6 hour journey to be up and off again 7.30 -8.00 am next day. I appreciate it would extend holiday by 2-3 days and cost extra but overall it would be worth it.
All the local guides where very good. Tour manager Marsha was good and knowledgeable and Brian the coach driver was great if there was an inch to spare either side of the coach he would get through hold ups in cities i think he knew every shortcut around his knowledge was great.
