French Alps Holiday Itinerary

Day One: Rail travel to France

Board the Eurostar at London's St Pancras International and depart for Lyon, where you'll change to France's highly efficient national rail network to enjoy a scenic onward journey to Annecy.

Day Two: Included tour of Annecy

This morning enjoy your first included tour, taking in the history, sights and sounds of beautiful Annecy, with its crystalline lake and stunning Alpine mountain backdrop.

Later in the day, discover the shops and cafes at your own pace, visit the town's Chateau - complete with museum - and explore the Museum of Alpine Miniatures or the Conservatoire d'Art et d'Histoire. Alternatively, get your camera ready and take to the water on one of the steamboats that ply routes on the lake, for astounding views of the town and its surrounds.

Day Three: Included Chamonix and Mont Blanc tour

Admire the views as you head through the Alpine landscape to Chamonix.

There, you'll have time to explore. Perhaps use your Mont Blanc Multipass (which gives you unlimited access on all participating and operating cable cars and trains) to ride the historic Montenvers railway which carves its way through alpine forest to the edge of Mer de Glace - an enormous glacier. Alternatively, board the Aiguille de Midi cable-car, which steadily rises towards the top station for Mont Blanc and a height of 3842 metres (and the closest to the summit as you can get without climbing).

Day Four: Optional day trip to Lake Geneva

Join an optional excursion to the banks of Lake Geneva, home of the maze-like Jardin des Cinq Sens (Garden for the Five Senses), and Evian-les-Bains - known the world over for its crystal clear alpine spring water. Alternatively, choose to remain in Annecy, relax by the lake and explore the town.

Day Five: Optional Aix-les-Bains tour

This morning there's the opportunity to visit the manicured thermal spa-town of Aix-les-Bains, on the second of our optional excursions. Enjoy a guided tour of the town's elegant centre and be sure to make time to admire the views from the shores of nearby Lac du Bourget - maybe even take a dip.

Day Six: Day at leisure

Your final day is to be one of relaxation. Choose to spend time by the lake's calm shores, people-watch in any of the town's numerous cafes, or take to the water to see the surrounds from a different perspective.

Day Seven: Train back to the UK

Enjoy a last breakfast in your hotel, before taking a short transfer to the train station to begin your journey home via the Channel Tunnel.

Aparthotel Adagio Annecy Centre ★★★★

Located in the heart of the city, this bright, modern and stylish aparthotel is a 10-minute walk from the lakeshore and the old town.

Ibis Style Annecy Centre Gare ★★★

The Ibis Hotel is located within 10 minutes walk of Annecy old town. Behind the hotel, a pedestrianised walkway runs alongside one of the waterways that flow into Lake Annecy - ideal for a stroll into town and down to the lake shore.

We enjoyed our travel on the Eurostar. The tour on the whole was good but the hotel was poor and eating out was expensive and not up to our standards.

Annecy is beautiful but my wife and I, naturally, expected to travel together but we were issued with Eurostar seats separated by 14 seats. This was not acceptable to us so we had to request new tickets with seats next to each other. Subsequently we learned, from other members of this tour, that the original carriage was only half full which makes it even more difficult for us to understand why our original seats were so far apart.
