Itinerary

Day One

Fly from your selected airport to Italy, and transfer to your hotel in Riva del Garda.

Day Two

Today's included excursion is to two wonderful Christmas markets.

At the spa town of Merano, the aroma of gluhwein and strudel, and the sounds of Christmas music fill the air. Wander between stalls laden with traditional handicrafts and regional delicacies like smoked pork, traditional country-style bread, Meraner Lebkuchenmilch and apple schnapps.

The wonderful Christmas Market on the Piazza Walther lives up to Bolzano's reputation as "the Italian capital of Christmas". Local craftsfolk ply their wares, while the foodstuffs on offer fuse the flavours of the north with the tastes of the Mediterranean south. Sample the excellent local vintages, and perhaps take back a bottle or two for your own Christmas table.

Day Three

Relax in Riva, or join our full-day optional excursion to beautiful Verona and Lake Garda. Set on the banks of the River Adige, medieval Verona's festive focal point is its traditional crib exhibition (which usually opens on 1st December, with entrance payable locally), featuring 400 displays from across the world, and the gigantic white iron 'star' that towers over the central Piazza Bra next to the ancient Roman amphitheatre.

Return to your hotel via the shoreline of Lake Garda, stopping to admire beautiful vistas of the lake from some of the most popular resorts.

Day Four

Transfer back to the airport for check-in and your flight home.

Grand Riva Hotel ★★★★

The elegant Grand Hotel enjoys a picturesque lakeside setting right in the heart of the historic centre of Riva.

Bellavista Hotel ★★★

This traditional hotel is located right on Lake Garda's shore in the centre of elegant Riva, close to all the amenities.

Further Information

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately one hour from Verona, two hours from Bergamo and three hours from Milan.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Entrance fees

Since some attractions visited offer free admission to visitors at certain times of year, we do not include entrance fees. These will be payable locally where applicable. This applies to excursions that are included in the price of your holiday and to excursions booked as optional extras.

Italian hotel room tax

Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 € and 3 € per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your Tour Manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.

Luggage Allowance

Please note that for two people travelling together on one booking, or a single traveler, one piece of hold luggage is included. Additional hold luggage may be purchased at the time of booking at a cost of £30 per bag.

Due to changes to flight arrangements this trip turned out to be 2 full days travelling and 2 days in the resort. The transfer from airport to hotel was 3 hours in a people carrier with no stop at all. The same for the return journey. It was a long way to go for 2 days in a resort which was mainly closed down for the winter. When we arrived, late, on the first night we found the restaurant was closed for the season although the brochure said there was a restaurant. We had to go out searching for an evening meal. The hotel itself was empty except for the 15 Newmarket people and a handful of others, it felt unwelcoming. There was no rep to greet us and we only saw her on the mini bus that took us to Merano the next day. We were left to ourselves on the third day and did not see the rep again before we left on the 4th day. There was an optional excursion to Verona on the 3rd day but we had not booked this at the time we booked the holiday.
Basically this holiday was too far to go for a short break and was not good value for money. We have travelled with Newmarket several times before and have had good trips with good reps. This one did not meet our expectations.

Saw the tour guide once and that was on an arranged excursion. The breakfast was not worth getting up for. Had to eat cereals out of a cup, and that set the dining experience. The holiday should not have been bed and breakfast as hardly any eateries were open.

An enjoyable holiday but only really for two days as flights and transfer times were not good. First day arr. hotel 9.00p.m. and final day leave 6.30a.m. Hotel not up to usual Newmarket standard.

A great destination with 2 full and enjoyable days. It was let down a little by the hotel which was not 4 star level as advertised. It was in need of repairs and a good clean.
Other issue was that all guests on the tour on our flight were on the same booking reference so we could not book seats in advance.
Other than that it was a good trip.
