Islands, gardens & delightful towns
Join us for a memorable holiday in one of Europe’s most romantic regions, where languid blue waters lap a verdant shoreline fringed by gentle rolling hills. Dotted with some truly elegant and serene resorts, the area lends itself perfectly to rest and relaxation, coupled with gentle exploration.
WHAT DOES THE PRICE INCLUDE?
Your Holiday Base
Your holiday is based on Maggiore’s western shore, in elegant Stresa. The resort holds an almost sub-tropical atmosphere, with rich exotic vegetation, citrus trees ,startling blossoms of verbena and beautiful oleander in formal and informal gardens. The delicate, intoxicating scent of orange blossom is a treat for early-year visitors – and Mediterranean palms add to the charm.
Off-shore, the idyllic Isole Borromeo, or Borromean Islands, bask in the sun, sharing their various charms with the day-trippers who cross the blue waters on the ferries from their resorts, while the gentle contours of the hinterland hint at the towering Alps beyond.
During your stay, there is so much to see and do, if you can tear yourself away from the restful atmosphere of your chosen hotel. The lakeside promenade is perfect for a stroll, as are the narrow streets of the resorts and of course, the delightful gardens of the island’s and other lakeside villas. The energetic might rent bikes, play tennis or golf, hike into the hills and take the cable car to Monte Mottarone for some spectacular views, or perhaps even swim in the lake itself.
Rest and relax
Whether it’s the joys of a sun-lounger by the pool or in a secluded spot, taking to the water on a cruise to one of the lake’s remoter corners, or long leisurely lunches –– the accent of a holiday on beautiful Maggiore’s shores is always restful and relaxed, however you choose to spend your days. Evenings are equally pleasant in Stresa, with the sound of music wafting through the air, and the narrow streets, shops and bars alive with the chatter of the nightly passeggiata.
Discovery and exploration
Garden lovers are in heaven here, with the stunning displays on Isola Bella, Isola Madre and in Verbania’s famous Villa Taranto amongst world-class horticultural gems. Further afield, elegant Turin, the vineyards of Barolo, as well as beautiful Swiss resort Zermatt, beneath the Matterhorn’s towering pyramid, can all be visited on optional excursions.
Hotel transfer times
The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately one hour and 15 minutes from Milan Malpensa and two hours from Bergamo.
Combining hotel transfers
We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.
If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.
The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.
Passengers travelling on tours departing after September 2018 will be offered different excursions on Days Four, Six and Seven. Please see the itinerary for further details.
