Nature's Beauty & Power

Discover the history, culture and stunning scenery of Iceland on this cruise from Hull, around the Icelandic coast and back to Newcastle. During your two week stay on Marco Polo you’ll have opportunities to explore four fascinating Icelandic ports, including the island capital, Reykjavik. Visit lively, cosmopolitan towns surrounded by a landscape that manages to be at once forbidding and unimaginably beautiful, see vast greenhouses filled with fresh fruit and vegetables, and learn how the island’s spectacular volcanoes, hot springs and geysers have been harnessed to provide power and warmth.

You’ll also sail around Surtsey, where continuing volcanic activity is gradually reshaping a landscape that only rose above the sea in 1963, call at the stunning North Sea island ports of Torshavn and Lerwick, and have the chance to head into the lochs and glens of the Scottish Highlands as Marco Polo stops in Invergordon.

Take the lift to the top of the Hallgrimskirkja Church for a panoramic view or visit the fascinating Arbaer Folk Museum. Witness geothermal activity at the famous Blue Lagoon Pool, and at the original Geysir - after which all others are named.

On Day Eight we'll cruise past Heimaey, where Eldfell, the volcanic "Hill of Fire", looms over the tiny port of Vestmannaeyjar, and around the fascinating, 'new' island of Surtsey, created from a three-year series of volcanic eruptions that began in 1963.
