Full Itinerary

Day One

Board Columbus in Tilbury today, and settle in to your cabin as she prepares to set sail.

Day Two

Spend the day exploring Amsterdam's canals, flower markets and museums. Wander the cobbled streets, or take to the water on a canal cruise.

Day Three

Spend today relaxing, and getting to know the ship, her crew and your fellow passengers.

Day Four

La Rochelle's sheltered position on the Atlantic coast has helped it become arguably the most attractive seaside resort in France. Wander through its pedestrianised centre from the Vieux Port, past the 17th- and 18th-century houses lining the Rue de Palais to the Belle Epoque Cafe de la Paix.

Day Five

Bilbao, the largest city in the Basque country and site of the astonishing, futuristic Guggenheim Museum. Famed for its friendliness and food - said to be the best in Spain - this compact city has a wonderful old town, the Casco Viejo, set beside a meander of the Rio Nervion.

Day Six

Relax on board as Columbus spends another day at sea.

Day Seven

The Portuguese capital Lisbon is Columbus's final port. Stroll the narrow streets of the Alfama district, and climb aboard one of the city's famous trams. See the extraordinary Manueline architecture of the Belem quarter, and the striking modern buildings of the Baixa.

Day Eight

Spend today in the very British outpost of Gibraltar in the shadow of the famous Rock. Search out a bargain in Main Street, and take a cable car to the heights above to see the famous Barbary Apes, and the views across the Straits to North Africa and the Atlas Mountains.

Day Nine

Relax on board as Columbus spends another day at sea.

Day 10

Columbus's next call is in the historic port of A Coruna, or La Coruna. Step ashore to explore the atmospheric medieval quarter, stroll the extensive seafront promenade, or perhaps take a shore excursion to Santiago de Compostela.

Days 11-12

A final few days are spent at sea, no doubt reliving the memories your cruise holiday as Columbus heads for home.

Day 13

Bid farewell to Columbus and all your fellow travellers, today, as you disembark at the end of your cruise.

Lovely relaxing holiday. Needed a full day in Lisbon and Gibraltar. Shame no films on tv in cabin like other cmv ships have and no English tv channels except news.

The trip was fantastic, very impressive smooth boarding at the beginning of the trip. Communications onboard was a little confusing at times with it not clear where to get off or no reminders.

The trips were excellent and well attended. the local tour guides were very passionate and incredibly knowledgeable. The only complaint i would have was having to queue with everyone else to get into St Jeronimos Church in Lisbon, it was hard to keep a track of who was there and having spent half an hour or so in blazing sun many people drifted off and never got inside. there should be a plan for things like this, maybe a runner stays in the queue while the tour party have a drink / snack or opportunity for shopping nearby and then gather at the entry time.
In Santiago it worked really well, with three tour groups from our ship alone - we all went to different areas, passing each other as we swapped areas. Where there was an opportunity for us to queue and visit it was in our own time and we made the choice.

The onboard days were full and plenty to occupy. the speakers had great topics but maybe needed a bit of pazazz to liven then up - particularly the after lunch one.... The creative writing group was excellent and really great way of meeting others.
There was a comedian one night who was relatively funny but allowing we had stopped at Amsterdam to pick up Germans - his content was very anti-nazi and there was a feeling it was inappropriate which was palpable in the room on the night.

the restaurants were fantastic the staff very efficient, friendly and made you feel very special. As were the staff in the spa who were wonderful and all very knowledgeable. our cabin 'boy' was exceptional and looked after us really well, the little touches like turning the lights down and bed down or his big smile and greeting when we weren't even in our room.

Time spent in port much too short. Excursions were therefore rushed. 20 minutes to see St Michaels cave in Gibraltar was a joke when it took nearly 10 minutes to gain entry.

Cannot fault the holiday with of the exception of embarking for shore excursions, the first four appeared to be totally disorganised with all excursions plus people going ashore on their own all leaving at the same time it got better as the trip progressed.
The ports of call and shore excursions excellent. Joining the ship at Tilbury was well organised and quick as was the disembarking on return. Staff on board and at Tilbury very helpful and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The paperwork came when promised and was all correct.
