Full Itinerary

Day One

Board Magellan in Liverpool today, and settle in to your cabin as she prepares to set sail.

Days Two and Three

Spend the next two days relaxing, and getting to know the ship, her crew and your fellow passengers.

Day Four

Cruise past stunning scenery, this morning, as Magellan heads to Ulvik. Disembark here to join an optional excursion and rejoin the ship in Eidfjord this afternoon, or stay aboard and simply soak it all in.

Day Five

The remote village of Flam is set in one of Sognefjord's most remote corners. From here, you might enjoy an unforgettable excursion, boarding the world-famous Flamsbana Mountain Railway, for the beautiful journey to Myrdal, before joining a coach to travel through yet more breathtaking scenery.

Day Six

This morning Magellan docks in Bergen. This ancient Hanseatic city of cobbled streets and medieval houses was the birthplace of composer Edvard Grieg. Visit the vibrant harbour and fish market, stroll past the wooden warehouses of Bryggen and take the Floibanen funicular to the summit of 'Mount' Floyen.

Day Seven

Today Magellan arrives in Kirkwall, Orkney's historic capital. Wander the streets and marvel at magnificent St Magnus Cathedral, or join an excursion to fabled Scapa Flow, Churchill's famous Barriers or the Italian Chapel.

Day Eight

Relax on board as Magellan spends another day at sea.

Day Nine

Today Magellan arrives in Dublin. This great city of culture, once home to Joyce, Yeats, Wilde and Swift, is one of Europe's most engaging capitals. Grafton and O'Connell Streets are popular with visitors, as are the city's famous bars and pubs, cafes and coffee shops.

Day 10

Bid farewell to Magellan and all your fellow travellers, today, as you disembark at the end of your cruise.

Exeter Family
On the whole the holiday was as expected and enjoyable. The crew members, especially cabin steward and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. Shore excursions were generally as described, apart from the visit to Gudvangen Viking village which turned out to be a guided tour in a group rather than walking at own discretion, as described in the cruise brochure; this was a problem for me as I have limited mobility and can only walk slowly and stand for short periods at a time. However the very friendly gentleman in the reception/shop area of the centre came to my rescue with a chair and a very interesting chat about the centre. The cabin was generally comfortable and surprisingly spacious; the bathroom was quite small and involved stepping up quite a high step to enter; the only real problem was the toilet, which was so close to the bathroom door that it was uncomfortable to use (lack of leg room). Food in the formal restaurants was excellent; the informal buffet was adequate but not as good and often very crowded. However our positive feelings about the cruise were very much diluted by the disembarkation process at Liverpool, during which 2 of our 3 bags went missing between the ship and the cruise centre, despite the fact that we followed the luggage handling process specified by the crew; one of our bags was mistakenly taken by another passenger and returned to the cruise centre within 15 minutes, but the second was missing for two weeks and we still have not had an adequate explanation of what happened to it in that period. Neither the crew at the time nor the cruise company (Cruise and Maritime Voyages) were particularly keen to help to recover the missing baggage; their attitude seemed to be that we should claim on our travel insurance, even though the baggage went missing while in their care. It was even suggested when the second bag was finally recovered that we were responsible for arranging (and paying for) its return to us. I would therefore recommend that any passengers taking this cruise (or any other CMV cruise) should if at all possible take the option of disembarking their own luggage. Unfortunately in our case this was not possible, owing to my disability. CMV could also look at a better monitoring system at the baggage reclaim to ensure that mistakes are not made; assigning more staff to this task (only 2 girls were in attendance when we disembarked) would ensure that cruise cards could be checked for consistency with luggage labels before luggage was released; this would not add siginificantly to disembarkation time (we were significantly ahead of the published schedule on the day) and would ensure that no-one needed to experience the distress that we suffered at the the end of the holiday.

At Norway as excellent with nice lakes as beautiful mountains with few snow on hills, but no summer sunshine last June. We enjoyed ourselves.

This was a fabulous trip, great ports of call, excellent food and service. The entertainment was mediocre at best apart from Dana who was excellent. The lectures were really good especially the geography ones.
