The Italian Capital of Christmas
Discover a very special corner of Europe, where Austrian and Italian traditions combine. Visit Bolzano, to discover a town famous as much for its Christmas celebrations as for its 1200-plus acres of vineyards. Browse the stalls of the Christmas market on Piazza Walther, and stroll down picture-postcard streets and alleys lined with coffee houses offering gluhwein and strudel, as the sound of Christmas music fills the air. A comfortable hotel in a popular spa on the shore of Lake Levico, and the chance to visit the ancient village of Rango and its own Christmas market, complete this wonderful festive break.
WHAT DOES THE PRICE INCLUDE?
Day One: Outbound flights from the UK
Fly to Italy, meet your Tour Manager and transfer to your hotel in the spa town of Levico, which lies just off the shore or Lake Levico in a broad valley beneath snow-capped mountains. Settle in to your room, then perhaps head out for a stroll around the town. Choose to dine in the hotel or in a nearby restaurant or cafe, soaking up the atmosphere of this wonderful Trentino town.
Day Two: Included Bolzano Christmas Market trip
Bolzano, in the heart of the wine-growing Alto-Adige region, is a delightful town surrounded by slumbering vineyards and the towering, craggy peaks of the Dolomites. Here, on the Piazza Walther in the centre of town, you'll find a wonderful traditional Christmas market. Local craftsmen – including glassblowers and wood-carvers – ply their wares, while the foodstuffs on offer fuse the flavours of Austria, the Alps and Northern Italy with the tastes of the Mediterranean. Don't miss the chance to sample some of the excellent local wines, and perhaps take back a bottle or two as a gift for friends or for your own Christmas table.
Day Three: Optional excursion to Rango
Spend today in Levico, perhaps wandering around the wooden stalls of the Christmas market that's held along the paths of Habsburg Park, or join our optional excursion to Rango. One of Italy’s most beautiful medieval villages, Rango stands at the highest point on the Bleggio plateau, and is a perfectly preserved warren of cobbled streets and old stone buildings that seem to gather haphazardly around ancient courtyards. Browse the delightful Christmas markets held in the half-hidden vaults between and below the houses of the village, where the aromas of local produce fill the air, before returning to Levico for the evening.
Day Four: Fly back to the UK
Bid farewell to your hosts and transfer back to the airport to check in for your flight home from this very special corner of Italy.
Hotel transfer times
The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately one hour.
Combining hotel transfers
We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.
If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.
The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.
