Discover the colonial legacy, elusive wildlife and unspoilt natural beauty of Sri Lanka, the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’, with stays at some of the country’s finest resorts.
With luxury stays in a selection of premium hotels, handpicked for their five-star quality and convenient locations, this small-group tour showcases Sri Lanka’s varied collection of highlights at a more leisurely pace. Start with an overnight flight to Colombo, the country’s commercial capital, where you’ll be welcomed by your Premier Collection tour manager and transferred by coach to coastal Negombo for your first hotel. After a welcome dinner on your first night, you’ll have a full day at leisure, with the option to join a tour of historic Colombo, and later that evening, you’ll rejoin the rest of the group for a memorable sunset glide experience on the coast. Swap Negombo for Nuwara Eliya the next day with a drive further inland and stop on the way in the riverside town of Kitulgala for a traditional Sri Lankan cookery demonstration and lunch. On arrival in Nuwara Eliya, head out for an evening nature walk around this former colonial retreat. The next day will bring you to the UNESCO-listed Horton Plains National Park for a hike around breathtaking Baker’s Falls and the World’s End Escarpment, ahead of an afternoon high tea. Learn more about Nuwara Eliya’s tea-farming heritage with a private Ceylon tea-plucking experience and a plantation tour, followed by a guided factory tour and tea-tasting session.
The next day will see you travel south to coastal Yala, stopping en route at the Elephant Transit Home for a guided tour. After a relaxing night on the Sri Lankan coast, rise early for your first wildlife-spotting experience in the world-famous Yala National Park and its fascinating local wildlife. On this game drive, your experienced driver will bring you to the most popular animal hotspots for the best chance to see the reserve’s native leopards, elephants, and unique bird species ahead of an optional sunset safari later in the evening. Another open-air game drive will follow the next morning, and you’ll have an afternoon free to unwind amongst your resort’s exceptional amenities afterwards. On the way to coastal Tangalle, take part in a traditional curd-making demonstration and visit to historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Tangalle, learn more about the region’s historic craft industry on a toddy-tapping experience, and enjoy a final day at leisure with the option to join a seasonal whale-watching cruise.
