ICELANDIC WONDERS

Join Marco Polo on a classic cruise to Iceland in search of the celestial occurrence, the Aurora Borealis, calling at a quintet of exciting ports, including the fascinating capital Reykjavík. Calls at several remote island outposts, including the Danish Faroes, Orkney and the Shetland Isles, complete this exciting journey.

Board Marco Polo in Tilbury and sail north, via Rotterdam, to charming Lerwick and toytown-like Tórshavn, respective capitals of the Shetland and Faroe Islands, before continuing to Iceland in search of the Northern Lights. Calls at Reykjavík, the world’s most northerly capital, with its painted wooden buildings, and rugged Kirkwall, capital of the Orkney Islands, round off this wonderful cruise.

Lerwick, the Shetland Islands’ rugged capital, is your gateway to an ancient land of legend, traditional crafts and an incredible abundance of bird life. Tórshavn, the tiny capital of the Danish Faroe Islands, is Marco Polo's destination today. The Faroes are a birdwatchers’ paradise in the heart of the Gulf Stream, and the islanders live surrounded by natural beauty. Discover Torshavn’s lanes and narrow passages, black-tarred houses with turf roofs and modern centre, or join an excursion – perhaps to cross the famous Bridge Across the Atlantic, which connects the main island of Streymoy with the spectacular scenery and ancient wooden churches of smaller Eysturoy.

Step ashore to explore, take the lift to the top of the Hallgrimskirkja Church for a panoramic view, or visit the fascinating Arbaer Folk Museum and the Saga Museum as Marco Polo spends an evening and a full day here, and perhaps take a nighttime trip outside the city in search of the Northern Lights, the enchanting Aurora Borealis, that flicker across Iceland’s autumn and winter skies.
