A midnight sun cruise

This glorious early summer cruise brings the opportunity to discover and explore the stunning ‘Land of Fire and Ice’, with calls at a quartet of exquisite Icelandic ports, including fascinating capital Reykjavík.

Board sleek Magellan at Newcastle and sail north via Dundee to toytown-like Tórshavn, capital of the Faroe Islands, before continuing to Iceland. Your first Icelandic port-of-call is the stunning natural harbour of Seyðisfjörður, one of the country’s most beautiful coastal locations, followed by Akureyri on the rugged north coast, home to a fascinating botanical garden. Continue to exquisite Ísafjörður, capital of the Westfjords, before a call at Reykjavík, the world’s most northerly capital, with its painted wooden buildings, completes this wonderful cruise.

Your Itinerary

  • Depart: 2000hrs

Board Magellan in Newcastle, today, settle in to your cabin and relax as your cruise begins this evening.

  • Arrive: 0600hrs

    Depart: 1700hrs

Today Magellan calls at the Tayside port-city of Dundee. Explore this historic city, and perhaps visit Captain Scott's Royal Research Ship Discovery - a beautifully restored example of the days when maritime adventures were less luxurious affairs.

  • Spend your first full day at sea relaxing and getting to know the ship, her crew and your fellow passengers.

  • Arrive: 0700hrs

    Depart: 1600hrs

Tórshavn, the tiny capital of the Danish Faroe Islands, is Magellan's destination today. The Faroes are a birdwatchers’ paradise in the heart of the Gulf Stream, and their inhabitants live surrounded by natural beauty. Discover Tórshavn’s confusion of lanes and narrow passages, black-tarred houses with turf roofs and modern centre, or join an excursion to another part of the islands, perhaps crossing the famous Bridge Across the Atlantic, which connects the main island of Streymoy with smaller Eysturoy.

  • Arrive: 1200hrs

    Depart: 1830hrs

Today Magellan calls in the stunning natural harbour of Seyðisfjörður, one of Iceland's most beautiful coastal locations. From here ferries and a sub-ocean telephone cable connect Iceland to the outside world. Wander the streets lined with Norwegian-style houses or head inland to discover yet more breathtaking countryside.

  • Arrive: 0930hrs

    Depart: 1900hrs

Akureyri, on Iceland's rugged north coast, is a thriving winter sports centre and home to a fascinating Botanical Garden. The area beyond is wondrously scenic, and today's excursion, to the Goðafoss Falls and volcanic Lake Myvatn, will highlight many of its delights.

  • Arrive: 0800hrs

    Depart: 1800hrs

This morning Magellan arrives in tiny, exquisite Ísafjörður, the capital of the Westfjords area, and gateway to the magical, mystical land of West Iceland from which Norse sailors set out to discover Greenland and the New World.

  • Arrive: 0800hrs

    Depart: 1900hrs

Magellan will spend today in Reykjavík, the world's northernmost capital. Set on a promontory jutting into crystal-clear waters, and framed by majestic Mt Ejsa, this city's brightly painted wooden buildings stand in sharp contrast to the stunning beauty of its setting. Take the lift to the top of the Hallgrímskirkja church for a panoramic view or visit the Arbaer Folk Museum. Witness geothermal activity at the famous Blue Lagoon, and at the original Geysir – after which all others are named.

  • Enjoy two days at sea relaxing as Magellan cruises home.

  • Arrive: 0930hrs

Magellan arrives in Newcastle, today, and you'll disembark at the end of a wonderful cruise to Iceland.

Days marked above with an anchor include ports where you will be transferred to shore by landing boat. These ports may be inaccessible for customers with mobility difficulties as a result. Any days not listed will be spent at sea.
