Itinerary

Day One

Leaving the local area early this morning you'll head to the port for the Channel crossing, continuing on to the hotel, with an en-route stop for a chance to have an early evening meal (payable locally).

Day Two

After a leisurely breakfast you'll head into the heart of medieval Metz, built at the confluence of the Moselle and Seille rivers and crowned by the magnificent Gothic Cathedral of St-Etienne. Half a dozen sites are home to some wonderful markets, with one of the largest, in Place de la Republique, set beside an ice-skating rink and overlooked by a giant Ferris wheel. The day is free for you to explore the sights and soak up the festive atmosphere of the city. A multitude of stalls offers a wealth of interesting crafts and unusual gift ideas, and when shopping's done, there are a host of cafes and restaurants from which to choose, and a winter wonderland, giant nativity scene and some magical night-time illuminations to enjoy, as the 'Capital of Lights' puts on a truly festive display. After time for dinner you'll return to the hotel.

Day Three

This morning you'll journey into Luxembourg, capital of one of Europe's smallest countries. Wander the Christmas market as traditional wooden chalets turn the main square into a miniature Christmas village, or discover and explore the city's Old Quarter and Fortifications, museums and galleries of this fascinating city.

After a wonderful morning, you'll travel on to historic Trier, Germany's oldest city with its fine market square, magnificent cathedral and vast Roman gate, the Porta Nigra. Against the backdrop of the stunning cathedral, Trier's colourful Christmas market boasts over 90 traditional wooden chalets selling all manner of Christmas fare. Enjoy an evening meal (payable locally) before returning to the hotel.

Day Four

Begin the return journey after breakfast this morning, arriving back in the local area during mid to late evening after a thoroughly enjoyable festive break.

Our journey to Metz, Luxembourg and Trier was very enjoyable and made even more so by Caroline the courier and Michael the driver. It was a happy coach! The hotel Ibis was clean, the room was comfortable and the staff were friendly. The restaurant food was good. The visit to all three countries was worth travelling to by coach and was a great build up to the Christmas festivities!

Coach arrived late. No notification by mobile phone. Understood to be due to scheduled pick-up in Exeter city centre in mid rush hour(why? why not Exeter Services?). Delays in Slough and at Eurotunnel meant an extremely late arrival at hotel at 2345.
Early start to Luxembourg Xmas Market led to us arriving 1.5 hours before it opened! Unbelievable!

The journeys from home to hotel & return were far too long. We went into Exeter City Centre just on rush hour, when the city is grid locked. Wasting vital time.

Please accept our apologies if you found the journey so long. Our operations department is very experienced in operating routings and timings and we can only apologise that this particular trip did not run as smoothly as they had planned. We hope this did not spoil your overall enjoyment of your holiday.

This was my first visit with Newmarket and i can safely say i won't be going on a tour again. My understanding was that it was a 4 day tour, but we spent two days travelling, not starting on our first day until lunchtime and on our return journey leaving ridiculously early. The two days we did have were passable, although it would have been nice to have been told that on a sunday none of the shops open, whilst the market was ok, it limited options, given we had a number of hours to kill. The tour guide was not informative at all. The coach driver was miserable. All in all not 4 days i would want to repeat again.

Thank you for your feedback. Your disappointment with the general itinerary has been noted and we apologise for your obvious dissatisfaction with the amount of travel involved. This holiday is classed as a 'Touring Holiday'. We do not advertise exact timings to view each attraction. We calculate each tour and in our experience have found the hours allocated sufficient time for most of our customers, although I appreciate that this may not suit everyone.

Your comments in respect of your Newmarket Rep and driver are also noted. Clearly we would wish our Tour Managers and representatives to add to our clients’ enjoyment of the holiday, and apologise that on this occasion this appears not to have been the case.
