Yuletide cheer in northern France
Join us on a super value festive break, based in one of northern France's most handsome cities, taking in three wonderful Christmas markets and visiting one of Europe's smallest countries. It's the perfect opportunity to get your Christmas shopping off to a flying start while enjoying some memorable sights and plenty of Yuletide cheer!
Leaving the local area early this morning you'll head to the port for the Channel crossing, continuing on to the hotel, with an en-route stop for a chance to have an early evening meal (payable locally).
After a leisurely breakfast you'll head into the heart of medieval Metz, built at the confluence of the Moselle and Seille rivers and crowned by the magnificent Gothic Cathedral of St-Etienne. Half a dozen sites are home to some wonderful markets, with one of the largest, in Place de la Republique, set beside an ice-skating rink and overlooked by a giant Ferris wheel. The day is free for you to explore the sights and soak up the festive atmosphere of the city. A multitude of stalls offers a wealth of interesting crafts and unusual gift ideas, and when shopping's done, there are a host of cafes and restaurants from which to choose, and a winter wonderland, giant nativity scene and some magical night-time illuminations to enjoy, as the 'Capital of Lights' puts on a truly festive display. After time for dinner you'll return to the hotel.
This morning you'll journey into Luxembourg, capital of one of Europe's smallest countries. Wander the Christmas market as traditional wooden chalets turn the main square into a miniature Christmas village, or discover and explore the city's Old Quarter and Fortifications, museums and galleries of this fascinating city.
After a wonderful morning, you'll travel on to historic Trier, Germany's oldest city with its fine market square, magnificent cathedral and vast Roman gate, the Porta Nigra. Against the backdrop of the stunning cathedral, Trier's colourful Christmas market boasts over 90 traditional wooden chalets selling all manner of Christmas fare. Enjoy an evening meal (payable locally) before returning to the hotel.
Begin the return journey after breakfast this morning, arriving back in the local area during mid to late evening after a thoroughly enjoyable festive break.
Your Tour Manager will have allocated seats for you on the main coach in advance, taking into consideration any special requests wherever possible, and will advise you where to sit as you board the coach. This will be your seat for the duration of the tour. (Seats are not allocated on any connecting services to and from the main coach.)
Coach seating arrangements
Your final travel documents, including the exact time and place of departure, will be sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure, providing all payments have been made. We are unable to give exact departure times before this.
Joining your holiday
Where meals are not included, your Tour Manager will ensure there are suitable stops made for you to purchase and enjoy lunch and/or dinner each day.
If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.
The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
