Traditional celebrations in the Latvian capital
Each year, Riga's Town Hall Square plays host to a wonderful, picturesque Christmas market, and to a spectacular Christmas tree that continues the tradition of tree decorating that's said to have begun here over 500 years ago. Join us to discover this fascinating historic city.
Fly to Riga, then board our coach for the short trip into the heart of the city to your hotel. After check-in, head out to enjoy your first evening here. You'll find a host of cafes and restaurants to choose from as the lights of the shops and bars bring colour and warmth to the crisp, wintry air.
Set on the bank of the Daugava River, Riga is a city of striking ultramodern buildings arranged around a walled, historic core.
On our guided tour you'll see the Dutch-influenced 'House of the Blackheads', Riga Castle, the towering Freedom Monument and both of the city's magnificent cathedrals. The city's Quiet Centre district boasts some of the best-preserved Art Nouveau architecture in the world, while Dome Square beside the cathedral in the old town is home to the city's second wonderful traditional Christmas market.
This evening, why not join our optional Latvian Folklore evening in a local restaurant, situated a short walk away from the hotel. The show will feature live music and dancing.
Discover more of the city today, or join our first optional excursion into beautiful Gauja National Park. Here, ancient forests shelter elk, European bison and brown bears, while the Turaida Museum Reserve chronicles Latvian history and culture.
Later, join our second optional excursion and complete your visit to Riga with a trip to a traditional tavern for an evening of local food and drink, and live folk music.
Today you'll transfer back to the airport to board your flight home.
