Leaving the local area early this morning we travel to lively Leeds. Here the main shopping area is compact and traffic-free, making it easy to get around. You'll find all the major high street names, as well as interesting shops, trendy boutiques, the first Harvey Nichols store to open outside of London and the city's renowned German Christmas Market.

Enjoy an early evening meal (payable locally) before we continue to the hotel.

Day Two

This morning we head to historic York and its St Nicholas Christmas Fair, which winds across the city from the Coppergate Centre, through the medieval Shambles, to Newgate Market.

Enjoy the festivities, soaking up the unique atmosphere, and perhaps buying some unusual and interesting Christmas presents, before we begin our journey home, arriving back in the local area in the mid to late evening.

My husband and I enjoyed the tour but was disappointed that the departure time from York was brought forward by 45 minutes, leaving us with only half a hour to visit the Minster (doors not open to the public until 14:00 hrs and we had to be back on the coach at 14:45 hrs).

Stoke on Trent Friends
York was a wonderful place to visit for the Christmas market, but Leeds, although a good shopping centre, fell short in the Christmas market department in that there were few stalls. Many of us felt it would have been better to spend 2 days in York.
There were several of us on the coach who were unhappy that no drinks were served or offered during the four hours of travel on the outward journey .What is the point of having the facilities if not to be used? I have to say that this has not happened before on the several trips with Newmarket we have taken.
