Discover the battlefields that forged South Africa, connect with unique local cultures, and enjoy a more exclusive ‘Big Five’ safari experience in glorious KwaZulu-Natal.
Set in the malaria-free Babanango Game Reserve, home to one of Africa’s most impressive conservation projects, this Premier escape offers a safari experience in which immersion and intimacy are the focus. You’ll stay in the homestead-style Valley Lodge, an intimate property which holds a maximum of 18 guests. Here, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to spot the bushveld’s unique wildlife in a more intimate, comfortable setting and with fewer distractions. Start with a flight to Durban, where you’ll be welcomed by your safari representative, before heading north to the Babanango Game Reserve. Waste no time making the most of the wildlife-viewing opportunities, with an optional afternoon game drive upon arrival, and settle in at leisure. An early start awaits the next day as you venture into the bush for animal encounters at sunrise and enjoy a second game drive and an introductory wildlife talk later in the afternoon.
The following day will see you set off on another two game drives ahead of an insightful cultural evening, with locally inspired foods, live music and dance performances that tell the story of the Zulu people. An excursion into Zululand awaits as you reach the midpoint of your safari getaway, where you’ll discover the battlefields that forged the region’s history. Isandlwana will be first, and you’ll see the site of one of the British Army’s heaviest single defeats, before taking in Rorke’s Drift and Nqutu Ridge. Next will be another two half-day game drives and in between excursions, you can take a closer look at the bushveld’s finer details on a guided wildlife walk. Delve deeper into the reserve of a further four game drives, with a few final opportunities to tick South Africa’s most elusive species off your wish-list, before settling in at the lodge’s traditional boma for a special farewell feast.
