Washington DC is a cultural and political powerhouse, with a charming appeal that attracts visitors year after year. Home to some of the most recognisable US landmarks, a holiday to the US capital is often filled with iconic historical sites, thought provoking memorials, and fascinating museums and galleries.

Walk along what is considered the world’s most powerful square mile, from the giant domed Capitol building on the Hill – home to the Senate and the House of Representatives - the vast Library of Congress and the Supreme Court, to the world-famous ‘home of the President’ – the White House.

Stretching two miles from the Capitol to the Potomac River, the vast, manicured acres of the Mall boast the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans' Memorial, and the Smithsonian museums. Pay a visit to the museums or perhaps pay your respects at the memorials. The malls in D.C are also worth a visit – no visit to Washington would be complete without a trip around the shops.

Across the Potomac lie Arlington National Cemetery and the hulking Pentagon, where you can along the corridors of the US military. The tour of the Pentagon is free, though visitors need to submit their requests a few weeks in advance.
