As the state capital of Texas, the city of Austin offers plenty in the way of things to do and see.

From renowned music festivals to some of the best Texas wine tours, the city is brimming with great cuisine, history and culture. The city also has one of the best live music scenes in North America. Having drawn creative types since the 1960s, the 'Live Music Capital of the World' has a well-established and diverse array of musical offerings. With performances of everything from country music to hip hop at many of its bars and restaurants throughout the week, particularly in the South Congress neighbourhood, you’ll never be stuck for a live show in Austin.

The city is also one of the USA’s greenest, with around 17,000 acres of parkland and 30 miles of urban trails, making Austin bike tours a popular tourist activity. Austin holidays offer plenty of tasty, if not entirely healthy, classic dishes. Look out for the Texas brisket sandwich - slow-smoked brisket topped with pickles and barbecue sauce - and chicken fried steak - a thin breaded steak actually made from beef and served with mashed potato and creamy gravy.
