Newmarket Holidays

Get a taste of our tours from someone who’s experienced them first-hand as we chat with David, one of our valued returning customers.

As long-time readers of our blog will know, there’s nothing we love more than enriching lives through travel, and our tours are carefully crafted to make the most of every moment in each destination. Don’t just take our word for it, though – we’ve been lucky enough to chat with one of our most prolific customers, David, who has travelled with us on 13 tours already, and has more wish-list trips on the horizon.

We sat down to discuss David’s opinions, his favourite trips and why he chose Newmarket Holidays all those years ago. From the destinations which keep bringing him back for more to his thoughts on our specialist tour managers, here’s what David had to say on his Newmarket Holidays experience.

1. What first inspired you to travel with Newmarket Holidays, and what keeps you coming back?

After my wife passed away in 2013, I’ve taken a few holidays each year, both in the UK and abroad. While I can’t exactly remember my first tour, I’ve stuck with you because of the variety of holidays available and the value for money. I’ve never come home from one of your trips regretting having gone!

2. How many tours have you been on with us?

I average around three tours per year with Newmarket Holidays and have no plans to slow down!

3. What was the very first trip you ever took with Newmarket Holidays?

While I can’t remember which of my trips was first with Newmarket Holidays, my favourites are usually in Italy, and I’ve visited most of the beautiful regions there.

4. Of all the places you’ve visited, which destination holds the most special memories for you?

As a musician, I really loved the visit to see spectacular André Rieu in Maastricht, and I’ve also just returned from your Adriatic Coast holiday – another great trip.

5. Have you ever been surprised by a particular place or experience on one of our tours?

Your tours are always full of pleasant surprises, which is probably what I like most about Newmarket Holidays!

6. Our tour managers and guides often make a big difference. Do you have a favourite story or encounter you’d like to share?

You’re correct about your tour managers and guides! They’re all different, and very good. My personal favourite was Olga in Athens, who was really helpful when I had my wallet stolen – she went above and beyond to try and track it down!

7. Do you have a favourite wish-list moment, perhaps a view, an event, or excursion, that will stay with you forever?

I love America and try to go twice a year. In terms of the moments which stick with me, I loved exploring the Freedom Trail in Boston, and the cog railway visit during the New England in the Fall tour was another major highlight.

8. Have you made any new friends or connections on your trips?

While on my tour of Ancient Greece, I made friends with a lovely lady from Newmarket Holidays called Brenda.

9. Are there any hidden gems or off-the-beaten-track places you discovered on one of our holidays?

Jersey – I loved this tour! It really was like going back in time 10 years!

10. Do you have any future plans or know where you would like to travel next?

I have three of your tours booked for the rest of this year. I’ve already visited Dubrovnik and the Baltic states, and am looking forward to experiencing the Edinburgh Tattoo, Lake Como and Sardinia with you too.
