Unparalleled mountain majesty
OFFER ENDS 31st JULY*
Discover the captivating scenery of the French Alps, breathtaking Mont Blanc, and the sun-blessed sophistication of lakeside Annecy. Visit charming Aix-les-Bains on an optional excursion, and use your Mont Blanc Multipass to ride across the stunning landscape of the Haute Savoie, on this wonderful, and wonderful-value, holiday to France.
Fly to Geneva, gateway to the Alps, and make the scenic transfer to Annecy.
Our included guided tour introduces the lake and the town that graces its northernmost tip. A picture-postcard-perfect scene, Lake Annecy boasts sparkling waters, across which several steamers and pleasure craft ply their colourful courses, overlooked by the high peaks of the French Alps. Prosperous Annecy is a beguiling place, with the Old Town's quaint, flower-decked houses huddled beneath the ancient chateau, Shops and restaurants abound, and there are several museums and a cathedral to explore.
Today's included excursion, perhaps the highlight of the holiday, journeys to famous Alpine resort Chamonix, in the shadow of towering Mont Blanc. We include a Mont Blanc Multipass, giving you unlimited access on all participating and operating cable cars and trains. Upon arrival in Chamonix, perhaps make a journey on the historic Montenvers rack railway to the edge of the vast Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice) above the town, or take the even more vertiginous ride on the Aiguille du Midi cable car to an eye-popping altitude of 3,842 metres - the closest you can get to the summit of Mont Blanc without climbing it!
Rest and relax in the hotel and its surroundings, or more likely join today's wonderful optional excursion to the shores of Lake Geneva, calling at the improbably pretty village of Yvoire, famed as a 'village fleurie', and taking in Evian-les-Bains, a famous 'watering hole' in more ways than one, since the resort is not only celebrated for its health-giving treatments, but of course known the world over for its bottled spring water.
The final optional excursion is to the celebrated spa town of Aix-les-Bains, including a walking tour around its elegant centre. Ornate formal gardens surround the imposing Belle Epoque buildings, while the Old Town, a rabbit warren of narrow streets, is a delight, and the Musee Faure houses some important Impressionist paintings. A mile or so from the town centre lies beautiful Lac du Bourget, another 'lakes and mountains' idyll.
A last day is free simply to enjoy the beauty of your surroundings, perhaps taking to the water on a steamer, or if you are feeling more energetic, heading out on the lakeshore promenade on foot or by hired bicycle. The shops and restaurants of Annecy might tempt you to return, or perhaps you'll venture further afield.
Bid "Au revoir" to your hosts, and transfer to Geneva Airport for the return flight to the UK, after a wonderful Alpine holiday.
This holiday is also available by rail, travelling directly from London to Lyon by Eurostar, then onward from Lyon to Annecy by local rail services. The transfer time from Annecy train station to the hotels is approximately 10 minutes.
