Itinerary

Day One

Leaving the local area, this morning we'll head to Bridgnorth, where a funicular railway connects the High Town and the Low Town. Explore, and take in the spectacular views from the High Town, which Charles I described as "the finest in my domain", before we continue to our hotel for dinner.

Day Two

Today we'll travel through the sleepy Shropshire scenery to Ironbridge. Despite its reputation as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and the soaring arches of its famous bridge, Ironbridge is a pretty market town surrounded by lovely woodlands that run along Ironbridge Gorge.

Our second stop is Ludlow. Discover the town's magnificent Tudor and Georgian architecture, cobbled streets and market; visit St Laurence's Church; and perhaps explore the castle before we return to to hotel for dinner.

Day Three

This morning we'll head to Shrewsbury. Take a trip along the river, stroll around beautiful Quarry Park - designed by the late Percy Thrower - or visit Shrewsbury Abbey, home of fictional medieval detective Brother Cadfael.

We'll leave Shrewsbury in the afternoon, arriving back in the local area by mid evening.

The booking of the holiday was very easy. The coach comfort and cleanliness were excellent as was the coach driver who was helpful and gave us a few jokes and pointed out some things which would not normally be remarked upon - ie. the lord who built a tower to spy on his lover and the husband who grew a forest in his line of sight. Not so impressed with the guide. Each of the places we visited were very nice but would have been able to appreciate see more if we had been provided with a map with places of interest in the towns shown.

Too much time on the coach, too little time in Bridgnorth (1.5hrs) not enough time in Ironbridge. Too much time in Shrewsbury, early Sunday is not the time to arrive. Church Services are taking place, most other places did not open till 11:00.

We would have liked longer at Ironbridge, the main reason for the holiday. It would have been better to have had time to see the Victorian village at Ironbridge rather than spending so long in Ludlow. It was also too long to be left wandering round Shrewsbury on a Sunday morning. The evening meals at hotel were very small portions.

Hotel too far from visit destinations, wasting a lot of time travelling to and from, would rather pay more to save all this tiring travel (this has been our experience on most coach tours with you.
Food at hotel was basic and not what I want on a holiday and both nights ran out of one of the sweet courses leaving many disgruntled.
Tour manager did the minimum and others commented on the lack of interest he seemed to show.

An interesting and very good tour. The hotel was a high standard and the staff very helpful.
As always there is never enough time to see everything, but it gives you an idea about the area and the possibilities for a future visit. I would have wished the tour guide had given more information en route, if only to pass the time on a rather long journey as opposed to just before our arrival. The coach drive on the ShropshiLudlowre Way was nerve racking as the road was in places more a lane with grass growing up the middle and any vehicles coming towards us had to reverse to let us pass. Perhaps that should not be included again in such a large coach. Also a choice to see either the Iron Bridge village or the town would have been nice.
