Day One

Board the coach at your pick-up point, and travel to Cologne today to stay in an overnight hotel.

Day Two

Continue south by coach today to join Sound of Music in Basel. Enjoy a first dinner on board as the ship begins her journey downriver.

Day Three

Sound of Music's first call sees her moored a short coach ride from Strasbourg. Head into the city to wander the maze of narrow medieval streets and criss-crossing canals of the Petite France quarter. Sound of Music stays here overnight, giving you the choice of an evening on board or spent in the city.

Day Four

After a morning on the river, Sound of Music arrives in Speyer. Join our Cruise Manager to explore what was once among the most important cities in the Holy Roman Empire on an optional walking tour, visit the vast cathedral or relax in one of the many bars and cafes.

Day Five

Another morning cruise brings Sound of Music to Mannheim. Here you'll be able to board the coach for our included excursion to Heidelberg. The 'Student Prince' city nestles beneath the famous red Schloss castle on a forested stretch of the River Neckar, and after time to explore you'll return to Sound of Music and enjoy dinner on board as she sails towards Mainz.

Day Six

Spend the morning discovering Mainz - its cathedral, its altstadt and its historic associations with Johannes Gutenburg and the printing press - on an optional walking tour, then return to Sound of Music for the short lunchtime cruise to Rudesheim.

Enjoy the afternoon and evening in this relaxed town. Visit one of the lively, traditional Weinstuben that line the Drosselgasse, or join our optional excursion to see some of the world's most unusual music instruments at Siegfried's Musikkabinett and sample fruity Rieslings and late-havested sweet wines from the surrounding vineyards.

Day Seven

One of the highlights of your cruise is this morning's passage through the Rhine Gorge, beneath the legendary Lorelei and into the Middle Rhine's landscape of villages, vineyards and castles. Step ashore in Boppard to explore or take an optional excursion to nearby Rheinfels Castle.

Day Eight

Slipping away from Boppard, early this morning Sound of Music heads to Koblenz. Join the Cruise Director for a stroll through the pretty altstadt or along the riverfront promenade, then return to the ship for a final cruise upriver.

Passing Konigswinter in the shadow of the Siebengebirge (Seven Hills) and the former capital, Bonn, to arrive in Cologne in the early afternoon. Explore the cobbled altstadt in the shadow of the city's mighty Gothic cathedral, and later enjoy a special Farewell Dinner on board.

Day Nine

Bid farewell to Sound of Music and her crew, this morning, as you disembark in Cologne to begin your coach journey home.

Excellent service and destinations. Food was amazing. However the trip ended in Basel but we never saw it and this is why I specifically booked the trip so slightly disappointed

Halesowen, west midlands Friends
The journey to the boat by coach was a nightmare. The driver got lost and did not seem to get any help from Newmarket staff. It took 16 hours to get to Cologne. The return journey was even worse and after being very disappointed on arrival in Switzerland that the only part of Basel that we saw was from the boat to the coach and a journey with no explanation of which country we were passing through, we had an 8 Hour journey back to Cologne, with the driver getting lost again. We were put up in a very mediocre hotel and the next day was another 17 hours to get back home, with the driver yet again getting lost. We reached our drop off at Coventry, unloaded our cases only to realize it was the wrong place. We had to put the cases back on and the driver took us to the correct place

Journey horrendous, no courier, driver got lost in Germany! Insufficient stops
driver said we would pick up courier before we get on ferry as they live in Dover area
No reason given why we didn't! pick anyone.
Arrived on boat late.... rushed time to change
Rush to dining room by the on board cruise director, what a welcome
Last night hotel in Koln no electric, no meal, not offered, told to go out, rude people in restaurant we were told to go as we hadn't booked.
Walked the unknown streets looking for somewhere to eat.
Entertainment is that what it was? Same music repeated every night, same order!

Travel to and from boat was very tiring but the cruise was great. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The entertainment wasn't brilliant.

The holiday was most enjoyable and the staff on the cruise were excellent. Food also was very good. The cruise manager was very efficient, unfortunately the director was not so organised and came across as in a state of panic. Coach driver was very good and helpful.
