Day One: Fly overnight to Rio de Janeiro
Fly overnight, via Sao Paulo, to Rio de Janeiro.
Day Two: Rest and relax
Upon arrival, meet your tour manager and transfer to your hotel. Rest and relax, perhaps dining in, this evening.
Day Three: Included excursion to Christ the Redeemer
Begin your South American adventure with an excursion to wonder of the world,the Christ the Redeemer statue, set atop Corcovado Mountain. Drive through lush suburbs to the Cosmo Velho cog-railway station and journey up to the giant figure, with its outstretched arms, then take the lift or escalator – or make the stiff walk - to the viewpoint. Return to Rio via the famous beach districts of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon.
Day Four: Included cable-car ride to Sugar Loaf Mountain
Enjoy another included tour that, as well as introducing downtown Rio, includes a cable-car ride to Sugar Loaf Mountain, from where the 360º views are simply unforgettable. This evening, perhaps take in an effervescent Samba show – a Rio highlight for many.
Day Five: Fly to Iguazu Falls
Transfer early to the airport for the flight to Iguazu Falls, the world famous cascades at the meeting point of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. Travel by coach through the lush foliage, and enjoy a night at your resort hotel on the Argentinian side of the falls.
Day Six: Included tour of Iguazu Waterfalls National Park
Discover the Argentine-side, protected wildlife refuge Iguazu Waterfalls National Park. Enjoy a fascinating guided walk and train ride to the Devil’s Throat falls, before transferring to the airport for the short flight to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival, meet your Argentinian tour manager and transfer to your hotel.
Day Seven: Included tour of Buenos Aires
Enjoy a guided introduction to Buenos Aires, taking in Plaza de Mayo’s parliament buildings, the Tango district of San Telmo, the famously colourful La Boca district, the chic Puerto Madero riverside area and La Recoleta – the capital’s most elegant neighbourhood. Return to the hotel at the end of a wonderful day.
Day Eight: Optional excursion into the Pampas Grassland
Discover more of enthralling Buenos Aires, or take the exciting optional excursion into the pampas grassland, to a typical estancia ranch, learning about the gaucho culture of the plains ranchers and enjoying a traditional asado barbecue. This evening, crown your Buenos Aires stay by taking the optional experience of an authentic tango show at famous La Ventana.
Day Nine: Fly to Mendoza
Fly to stunning Mendoza, one of South America’s most beautiful cities, at the heart of Argentina’s most celebrated wine-producing region. Transfer to your hotel for the next two nights.
Day 10: Included vineyard tour
Get to know Mendoza’s elegant plazas and wide boulevards, and on an included tour to the surrounding vineyards, visit two of the region’s most famous wineries. Enjoy tasting – and perhaps buying – some samples to bring home, and enjoy some regional food.
Day 11: Cross the border to Chile
On one of the tour’s most extraordinary and unforgettable days, make a very early start, boarding the coach for the journey from Mendoza, across the high Andes, crossing over the border to Chile. Descend past the famous, natural Inca Bridge to Chilean capital Santiago, for a final three-night stay. Settle into your hotel and rest and relax after the amazing journey.
Day 12: Fly to Mendoza
Enjoy a very special introductory tour of this cosmopolitan city and see life through the eyes of the locals. Take the metro in the company of your guide to the Barrio Centro, a walkabout grid of shopping streets, grand neo-classical architecture, bars and cafes. Enjoy lunch with locals in a restaurant at the Central Market, and explore Bohemian Barrio Bellavista with its pubs and restaurants. End your memorable tour by taking the funicular to Cerro San Cristobal, with its statue of the Madonna and spectacular views.
Day 13: Included tour of Casablanca
A last full day’s touring sees you re-board the coach to make the short journey to the Pacific shores, en-route enjoying wine-tasting in pretty Casablanca. Explore picturesque, UNESCO-listed Valparaiso, where colourful houses are built upon the steep hillsides, many parts reached by a series of funiculars, and take in garden city Vina del Mar, with its beautiful beaches, before returning to Santiago for a last evening.
Day 14: Travel to Chile
After breakfast, begin your Chilean extension, heading to the awe-inspiring Atacam Desert.
Days 15 - 16: Included visit to the Atacama Salt Flats
Stand in awe of the shimmering Atacama Salt Flats and see sweeping sand dunes, pink flamingos and some incredible geysers which make up one of the world’s most unique landscapes, on this extended tour of South America.
Day 18: Begin your journey home
Transfer to the airport to begin the return journey, via Brazilian Sao Paulo and an overnight transatlantic flight.
Day 19: Begin your journey home
Arrive back in the UK at the end of a marvellous South American adventure.
Hotel transfer times
The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately one hour.
Combining hotel transfers
We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.
If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.
The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.
