Staff Stories: Lifting the lid on Malta with Kelly Stentaford
Get a closer look at Malta, courtesy of our Customer Operations Assistant Manager, Kelly Stentaford, as she shines a light on her recent Mediterranean escape.
With an agreeable year-round climate and historical treasures abound, it’s no surprise that Malta remains one of Europe’s most celebrated holiday hotspots. Along with its greener sister-isle, Gozo, the island boasts one of the world’s most spectacular natural harbours, and promises rewarding exploration amongst its major centres, Valletta, ‘Silent City’ Mdina and the rural harbour town, Marsaxlokk.
The best way to get to grips with the essence of this pretty island nation is by experiencing it first-hand but, in the meantime, why not enjoy a taste of this charming Mediterranean outpost courtesy of our Customer Operations Assistant Manager, Kelly? Having just returned from her own Maltese escape, Kelly recently sat down with us to run through all the best bits from her trip and what surprised her most. From local dishes and traditional dances to her favourite city stops, here’s what she had to say.

1. What were you most excited about going into this experience – did it live up to your expectations?
I was excited to visit a new country as it’s always nice to add to the list of places I have seen. I was also keen to better understand how our tours run from a customer’s perspective and found it really beneficial in enabling me to answer specialist, detail-oriented questions more accurately. I would love to return one day.
2. Were there any experiences that stood out as a top highlight for you?
The trip to the Blue Lagoon was great fun and the scenery was spectacular! I also really enjoyed Gozo and its small coastal inlet, in particular. Here, we got some really impressive views out to sea and people-watched from one of the traditional restaurants in Munxar. The Maltese evening was also great and offered a lovely opportunity for the group to spend some time together whilst enjoying local dishes and traditional dancing.

3. How would you describe the pace of the tour?
This tour was fairly relaxed with a good amount of free time for us to relax or explore more if we wanted to.
4. What would you say to someone who might be on the fence about visiting Malta?
Get off the fence and go see it – you won’t regret it!

5. How would you rate the tour’s activity level, and what tips would you give to others to ensure they remain comfortable throughout?
Malta is easy to get around on foot and transport. There aren’t any strenuous activities in the tour, but comfortable shoes are a must.
6. Of the island’s main cities, which did you find most impressive?
Valletta and Mdina were wonderful! Both had so much history, were easy to walk around, and had loads of choice for food and drink. There was some stunning architecture, too.

7. Had you ever been to Malta before, and was there anything that surprised you?
As it was my first time visiting Malta, I really didn’t know what to expect. I assumed it'd be similar to Spain, but it really wasn’t. From the first day, we were made to feel at home – just with nicer weather! There was so much history and the island’s coastline is just beautiful.
8. Did having a tour manager with you enhance the experience in your view?
Absolutely – our tour manager, Agnes, really brought the tour to life. She was superb, seemed to know everything there is to know about Malta and she was so passionate about it.

9. If you had to sum up your whole experience in five words or less, what would they be?
Beautiful, historic and safe.
