Day One

Travelling by comfortable coach, you'll leave the local area today to make your way to the Channel port, and continue to your overnight hotel.

Day Two

Today you'll stop en route in Strasbourg. Here, the city's festive market is held in the shadow of the magnificent cathedral, which overlooks the ancient Petite France quarter of canals, covered bridges, cobbled streets and half-timbered buildings.

You'll then cross the Rhine and head into the scenic countryside of the Schwarzwald. When you arrive at your hotel, you'll be welcomed with a complimentary drink.

Day Three (Christmas Eve)

Enjoy a visit to picture-postcard Colmar in the Alsace region. Explore the Christmas market and other gems, such as the Pfister House with its wooden gallery and octagonal turret, and the high, half-timbered houses in the Tanner District. During the late afternoon we return to our hotel to continue our Christmas celebrations.

Day Four (Christmas Day)

Celebrate Christmas Day with a scenic drive through idyllic Black Forest countryside to the famous spa-town of Triberg, famous for its wood-carving and its cuckoo-clocks. Afterwards, you'll return to your hotel to enjoy Christmas lunch and a special five-course dinner.

Day Five

Rest and relax today at the hotel. Alternatively, after a leisurely breakfast, join our optional excursion to the village of Hofgut Sternen, home to largest cuckoo clock in the Bavarian Highlands. Discover how these beautiful, hand-made clocks are made and visit the workshop where delicate glass items are created. We'll also stop at the pretty lakeside resort of Titisse.

Day Six

Today we'll begin our journey home, travelling north to a comfortable overnight hotel.

Day Seven

Continue your homeward journey, across the Channel and into the UK.

Further Information

Meet at port option

To give you greater flexibility, you may like to meet the coach at Folkestone Services (called Stop 24) on the M20, which is just a five-minute drive from the Channel Tunnel and a 15-minute drive from Dover. If you wish to do this, please select the county 'Kent' and the pick-up point 'Stop 24 Folkestone Services Saltwood' when booking. You will be notified of the exact pick-up location in your Final Travel Details, which you will receive approximately 7-10 days prior to departure. Further information and car parking charges can be found at

European Christmas closing times

Shops in Europe will generally close from early afternoon on Christmas Eve until 27th December. Included tours and excursions have been chosen for their scenic or historic value.

Coach seating arrangements

Your Tour Manager will have allocated seats for you on the main coach in advance, taking into consideration any special requests wherever possible, and will advise you where to sit as you board the coach. This will be your seat for the duration of the tour. (Seats are not allocated on any connecting services to and from the main coach.)

Your journey

Depending on your departure point, you may leave your pick-up point very early in the morning and return very late at the end of the holiday, in order to meet your scheduled Channel crossing. There will also be a stop to transfer you from a feeder coach to your main coach, on both the outward and return journeys.

Joining your holiday

Your final travel documents, including the exact time and place of departure, will be sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure, providing all payments have been made. We are unable to give exact departure times before this.

Hotel accommodation

Accommodation may be offered in 'nebenhause', which are adjoining buildings just a short walk from the main reception area.

Meal arrangements

Where meals are not included, your Tour Manager will ensure there are suitable stops made for you to purchase and enjoy lunch and/or dinner each day.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Triple rooms

The majority of these consist of a double bed and an extra bed that is often only suitable for children. If this is a concern, you may wish to consider booking more than one room for your group.

Tewkesbury Couple
We did this break with Newmarket 8 years ago, and rated it very highly (scenic routes, and lots to see and do) - Not this time!

Lots of uncomfortable (luxury? coach) motorway travelling, with very little scenic interest for the whole week.

The main hotel (The Baren, Oberharmersbach) was nice enough, but the evening meals were not very good, and a lot of food got returned. The stop-over hotel (Campanile) was a very basic budget place, but ok for one night each way.

On the excursions with interesting stops, we could only stay for 30 minutes or less, but they made us stay for up to 3 hours at places where we had nothing to do! Then back on the coach for more boring motorways...

The drivers were attentive and helpful, but the tour guide was dreadful. She managed to lose half the party at the first pedestrian crossing on our first excursion... it went downhill from there...

The Christmas markets at Strasbourg and Colmar were much smaller than last time we did this break, and really not worth visiting now...

We did not bother taking the planned Christmas Day excursion, opting to wander around the local village instead (probably the best day out of the whole break)!

The optional excursion to see traditional Black Forest cake being made was good (if a little rushed), but the Schnapps Distillery visit was not as described (we saw a small family museum of old stuff, mostly not even distillery related - and their garage of vintage motorbikes), we did not see the distillery!

A letter of complaint is on it's way to Newmarket...

Terrible, wish we had never gone, too long on the coach, hotels not good, food not good. On top of that we both caught very bad colds, which took two weeks to recover.

Southampton Couple
Unnecessary early breakfast for unnecessary early coach start. One visit required an early start to travel to Metz. Told we had to get off (but we did'nt) the town was closed - not one shop or cafe open, and it was cold.
When the tour manager directed us on a visit, she set off as if everyone was fit and the majority of the older travellers were left behind and lost.
Food at the hotel was not either German or English styled and poor in general i.e. Chips and mash potato with sprouts and slices of leg of Turkey. Another time we had pasta and mash potato!! Other coach parties had fun hats and presents on Xmas day - we had nothing and they paid the same it turned out.
