Itinerary

Day One: Fly to Olbia

Fly to Olbia, where our Tour Manager will be waiting to meet you. The hotel is just a short coach ride from the airport, and, depending on your time of arrival, you'll be free to spend the rest of the day relaxing or perhaps wandering into town.

Day Two: Included excursion to the Costa Smeralda

Join us on an excursion to the Costa Smeralda, 20 kilometres of tastefully developed, reclaimed coastline that has become a playground of the wealthy. Hidden coves, offshore islets and the unusual architecture of the 'capital' Porto Cervo all add to the charm of this unique location. You'll also have free time to swim and enjoy lunch in the beautiful Baia di Sardinia.

Day Three: Visit to Alghero

A picturesque fishing port, Alghero is the Spanish-influenced main town of Sardinia's north-west coast. The cobbled streets of its Old Quarter weave past the cathedral and open onto a harbour lined with bars and restaurants while, out in the bay, the long mass of Capo Caccia lies across the water like a slumbering giant. Don't miss the chance to float into the otherwordly limestone caves of Neptune's Grotto on an optional boat trip across the bay.

Day Four: Bonifacio and a train ride to the haute ville

Today we'll leave Italy behind, heading to the port of Santa Teresa di Gallura to catch the ferry to the French island of Corsica. We'll disembark in the stunning natural harbour of Bonifacio, where the tourist train will take you up to the haute ville to take in the views (or simply relax in a quayside cafe).

You'll have time for lunch in one of the many local restaurants before our coach carries you north, through the rolling green landscape, to Ajaccio and your second hotel.

Day Five: Included guided tour of Ajaccio

The capital of Corsica and the island's largest city, Ajaccio shelters at the northern end of one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful bays. It is also famous as the place where Napoleon was born in 1769. Discover its 15th-century citadel, cafes, restaurants and many monuments to the Little Emperor on a half-day guided tour then continue exploring or return to the hotel to relax.

Day Six: Relax in Ajaccio

Spend today relaxing. Head to the nearby beaches, make the most of your hotel's facilities or head back into Ajaccio to explore a little more.

Day Seven: Included west coast tour and optional cruise

Our final included excursion takes us further up Corsica's west coast to Scandola Nature Reserve and the twisting inlets and outcrops of the Calanques de Piana. Here the elements have shaped and shifted the pink granite landscape into forms that seem almost alive. We'll follow the road past Piana's pastel houses to Porto's harbour and pebble beach, and you'll have time to explore here before returning to the coach or joining an optional 90-minute cruise along the coast for the very best views.

Day Eight: Flight back to the UK

Say a fond farewell to your hotel and Corsica, this morning as we cross back to Bonifacio, take the ferry to Sardinia and wind our way back to Olbia in time to catch your flight home.

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately 15 minutes. On departure, the transfer time from your hotel to the airport will take approximately five hours including the ferry crossing from Corsica to Sardinia.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Changes to your hotels

Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in alternative hotels, of a similar standard, nearby. Full details of your hotels will be sent with your Final Travel Documents.

Italian hotel room tax

Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 € and 3 € per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your tour manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.

We were disappointed with the hotels there was no pool in Sardinia and it was situated on a busy road. The hotel in Corsica shut at 10 pm and the food was not particularly good.
There was too much travelling on every day there should have been more breaks, especially as the trip appealed to the older age group.

Thoroughly enjoyed the trip - second time I have been on an abroad holiday with Newmarket and will certainly look at booking another one next year. Nothing to fault everything ran smoothly apart from a plane delay on the way home (not Newmarkets fault) lovely 8 day break.

Overall, we enjoyed the holiday, there being more to see in Corsica than Sardinia. The hotels were good, but the food at the Ajaccio hotel was not as good as at the hotel in Olbia.

It might be an idea to swap, and start from Corsica with the amazing landscapes and finish the tour in Sardinia. The hotel at Olbia, being only 10 minutes away, or fights back from Ajaccio.

Having said the above, the tour was really good, had a real taste of both islands, and would love to go back.

It might be an idea to change the hotel at Ajaccio, it was very basic, and not as nice as the hotel at Olbia.

The last day was nearly 24 hours straight! up at 4am for a 6am start, then by ferry back to Sardinia, with a 3 hour delay on the plane with EasyJet, then another 3 hour delay on the M25.

LINDA

Gloucester Friends
The holiday overall was very enjoyable. Both hotels good, food reasonable, especially in Sardinia. The hotel in Corsica had lovely views next to a sandy beach reached by steep uneven steps. A bus stop was right outside the hotel which we used to go into the capital, Ajaccio and to a not to be missed boat ride around a group of islands. This was a short bus ride from the hotel further along the coast. Make sure they give you written information in English! This holiday could be extended to 10 days to enable a much needed couple of of days relaxing before the long journey home.

It would have been much better to have flown home from Corsica.

Our tour manager was capable and well organised, but we would have liked more general information about the countries we were visiting during our coach journeys.
