Salzburg & the Heartbeat of Austria

From exclusive resorts and the idyllic settings of The Sound of Music to elegant Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart, this is Austria at its most authentic.

Begin with a flight to Salzburg, the ‘Rome of the North’, or Munich, where you’ll be welcomed by your friendly local tour manager. Your first excursion will take you to Lake Zell, and you’ll spend the day exploring the town of Zell am See. Choose to view the region from the summit of Schmittenhöhe, some 2,000 meters above sea level. Next, see Salzburg’s exquisite Baroque landmarks, including Mozart’s Birthplace and the city’s vast Cathedral, before finishing at the Höhensalzburg Fortress. Those who’d prefer to relax can enjoy the hotel’s amenities with a full day at leisure, while an optional tour of Höhewerfen Castle will showcase life in medieval Austria and a falconry show.

Continue into the idyllic Salzkammergut, an area renowned as one of the country’s most beautiful spots and one of the main filming locations for The Sound of Music. Here, you’ll take a tour of the region’s pristine lakes with stops at a number of serene towns that line their shores. Another day at leisure follows and you can enjoy views over the Eastern Alps most impressive landscapes with an optional excursion to Großglockner, Austria’s tallest peak. A final trip into the lush Gastein Valley, with stops in the Belle Epoque town of Bad Gastein and a traditional alpine lodge concludes your tour ahead of a tasting session of the region’s finest local delicacies.
