The Hive at Kew Gardens

The secret life of bees

Bees are arguably among the most important animals on Earth - it's thought that up to a third of all food crops are pollinated thanks to their movement from plant to plant. The Hive is a multi-sensory installation that links music and lights to tiny instruments monitoring the movements and sounds of bees in a working hive, and reinterpreting them in a continuous unique performance. Don't miss your chance to be among the first to experience this extraordinary and beautiful display, and to explore the world-famous gardens and glasshouses at Kew Gardens.

Tour Highlights And Inclusions

  • A free return transfer into Central London on the evening of Day One
  • One night's bed and English breakfast accommodation at a four-star hotel with leisure facilities in the Greater London area

Day One

Leaving the local area, early this morning we'll head to the outskirts of London and our four-star hotel. After check-in you'll have the rest of the afternoon and evening free. Make the most of the hotel's leisure facilities and public areas, or perhaps take advantage of our return coach transfer into London's West End.

Day Two

After breakfast we'll head to Kew Gardens, the new home of The Hive until November 2017. An intricate, spiraling honeycomb of aluminium bars and struts some17-metres high , The Hive was created by British artist Wolfgang Buttress for the 2015 Milan Expo. Follow the path through the wildflower meadows, and step into a strange and beautiful world filled with twinkling lights and ever-changing sounds. Specially trained Hive Explainers will be on hand to answer questions and talk about the technology and creative processes involved.

You'll also have time to explore Kew's 300 acres of gardens, lawns and woodland. The iconic glasshouses are not to be missed, and between June and December this year you'll be able to find out how bees and plants interact as you follow a pollination trail through the Gardens, or hear Kew's experts talk about the current research into bees at the plant family beds.

We'll leave Kew in the afternoon, arriving back at your original pick-up point in the mid to late evening.

Felixstowe Couple
We only had 3 hours at Kew for the whole weekend, as we were tagged onto another tour. What could have been lovely, if we had been aware of the theatre trip on the Saturday night was just a waste of time.

bury st edmunds Couple
In short being bundled in with another different "holiday weekend" meant that those of us having booked to go to Kew were without doubt a secondary consideration coupled with the fact the office could give no information even on the day before travelling left us having to make arrangements to meet up with friends by mobile phone whilst travelling on the coach. and that is was not until we reached our hotel that the timings for our visit to Kew were given to us by which time it was of course too late for any alternative arrangements to be made
So not the happy weekend we had looked forward to.
