Day Three

On the first of our included excursions you'll explore Valletta. We loved Malta with comfortable and friendly hotel -food plentiful and delicious
Our guide, Agnes, was excellent -great communication skills and most knowledgable
On one excursion we were a group of 46 from the San Antonio hotel - too many - and not fair on the guide. There were only about 17 customers at the Suncrest Hotel -also Newmarket customers - the local reps should have evened out the group numbers.

The excursions on offer were good and we appreciated an optional open top bus trip round the Island on Christmas Day.

Malta was what we expected, a very interesting Island that is steeped in history and culture. But not really for visiting at Christmas as this is a religious period and Malta being a strong Catholic country directs all towards the birth of Christ.

Hotel was tired and dated. Swimming pool etc in poor condition. Room very cramped and dated did not even have a chair. Had to call maintenance twice re TV not working, gave after that. Meals was poor with very little variety, no veggie options, hence salad everyday. Bar too small entertainment poor. Staff tried there best but were poorly trained. No Christmas Day Gala event just another day. Christmas Eve was supposed to be a gala dinner, however this was same as other days, no turkey, trimmings or festivities. Yes, you did get a cracker!! There's more but no room.

Overall it was a very enjoyable Xmas holiday.Malta a beautiful country,Hotel was friendly .good food and plenty of it,Room was average ,bit small but ok for a week.Balcony nice but at back there was no real view and work going on at next building .no noise but piles of building rubbish as the view,Had to pay to view TV so did not bother .Never had to pay for tv in hotel before. Also no tea or coffee supplied although a kettle for use.Wanted 2euro 50c per day for tea coffee & milk.Bought a jar of coffee from store next door for 2euro which lasted the week & took sugar from breakfast bar ,we drink black coffee. This seemed a rip off to have to pay for room tea & coffee again never had this experience in hotels before. Bathroom could have been cleaner .Shower outlet bit smelly with hair blocking plug hole.Only half glass shower screen so floor got soaked with water which could be slippery.Would not use this hotel again .Had a good time in Malta despite room problems.Had to ask for extra toilet roll as not restocked by cleaner .Newmarket tours were good .
