Itinerary

Day One

Join our coach from your chosen pick-up point and travel to Dover for your Channel crossing, continuing to the Frankfurt area to your overnight hotel.

Day Two

Today we'll leave Frankfurt to join Olympia in Linz, where you can enjoy dinner on board and perhaps head into the city during the evening to discover its bustling night-time atmosphere. Olympia then slips away downstream overnight.

Day Three

Olympia arrives in the pretty town of Melk, this morning, which sits in the shadow of a magnificent, 11th-century Benedictine Abbey - Stift Melk. See its immense church, ornate Baroque interior and elegant rooms on an optional excursion, before heading back to Olympia for her afternoon sailing into the Wachau Valley. Enjoy a scenic journey past pretty towns and vineyard terraces, before mooring close to Vienna this evening.

Day Four

This morning's optional excursion brings the opportunity to explore magnificent Vienna, city of Strauss waltzes and the Habsburg Empire, and one-time home of cultural greats including Mozart, Wagner, Freud and Mahler. See St Stephen's Cathedral, historic churches, elegant shopping arcades and the Ringstrasse - a grand boulevard encircling the historic centre.

This afternoon, you'll have the chance to visit Schonbrunn Palace on another optional excursion, offering the chance to explore the opulent salons and manicured gardens of this elegant, former summer home of the Habsburg monarchs.

Day Five

Olympia reaches Budapest this afternoon, where an impressive entrance reveals the dazzling architecture of the Hungarian capital's iconic parliament building. An optional guided tour offers the perfect introduction to this city of two parts - where elegant Buda populates the Danube's western bank and bustling Pest spans the east. See Buda's Castle Hill, where a maze of winding streets house the former Royal palace and a collection of museums, then cross the Lanchid - or Chain Bridge - to explore Pest's designer shops and coffee houses.

Day Six

Continue exploring Budapest's sights this morning, before rejoining Olympia for lunch and her afternoon sailing back upstream. Visit the pretty towns of the Danube Bend on an optional excursion that explores Esztergom, where a magnificent basilica governs the riverbank; Szentendre, a Baroque jewel comprised of cobbled streets lined with colourful houses; and Visegrad, renowned for its 13th-century fortress elevated high on a hilltop.

Day Seven

Sail across the Hungarian border into Slovakia, today, to visit its capital city, Bratislava. On this optional excursion you'll enjoy a walking tour around its medieval centre and see Gothic St Martin's Cathedral, the city's ancient suspension bridge and a collection of delightful Baroque palaces. Return to Olympia during the afternoon ahead of her sailing back into Austria.

Day Eight

Olympia sails through the beautiful Wachau Valley today, making a call in the delightful town of Durnstein. An included walking tour introduces the town, renowned for its castle that once imprisoned Richard the Lionheart.

Re-board Olympia during the afternoon for a final cruise through the picturesque scenery of the Wachau Valley, and this evening's Gala Farewell Dinner.

Day Nine

Disembark Olympia in Linz, and begin your return journey home, stopping overnight in the Frankfurt area.

Day 10

After breakfast, re-board the coach and continue your journey home.

Joining your holiday

Your final travel documents, including the exact time and place of departure, will be sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure, providing all payments have been made. We are unable to give exact departure times before this.

Meal arrangements

Where meals are not included, your coach driver will ensure there are suitable stops made for you to purchase and enjoy lunch and/or dinner each day.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Optional excursions are available on all cruises, and we recommend that you book now to secure your place. If the number of bookings needed to operate any excursion is not reached, the excursion may be cancelled. In this case your payment will be refunded in full.

Dress code

The dress code on board and ashore is casual. After 7pm, in the lounge and restaurant, shorts are not permitted, and footwear and a shirt or T-shirt must be worn.

Tipping is not compulsory, but from experience we know that many passengers like to leave gratuities for the crew. An envelope will be left in your cabin for this purpose.

Luggage

Where possible, non-rigid suitcases are easier to store within your cabin.

Drinking water

The tap water on board is safe to drink, but may not be to your taste due to the purification system.

Itinerary changes

On rare occasions, the Captain may need to alter the Cruise Itinerary. If this happens, the Cruise Manager will keep passengers informed.

Cabin sizes

The majority of cabins on board are 10.5m square. Single cabins are approximately 7.7m square. (These measurements include the bathroom.) Standard Promenade cabins are 15m square and most have double beds (which do not convert to sofas), but they do not have a table or stool and will by subject to engine noise during overnight and early morning sailing.

The coach was not adequate for the two day journey, no leg room, very narrow isle, could not use the toilet on return journey as full!? We know there are facilities for emptying. On arrival at mercure hotel no restaurant open and on the way back. This needs to be addressed as well as the coach.

Another thoroughly enjoyed river cruise with Newmarket. I enjoyed last years on the Rhine and now enjoyed the Danube even more. As we travelled over a long stretch of the Danube, travelling overnight, through the locks was necessary. One does get used to this especially after dancing t h e night away and having a great time. The food was excellent, ( I worried about losing the excess weight when I got home).

We had a lovely time. All the crew on the ship were friendly and helpful and we visited some lovely places.
The optional excursions we went on were very disappointing. Both expensive and poorly run. The tour "manager" was less than useless most of the time. Constantly going on about how well she knew the area and how popular she was. Then repeatedly giving completely wrong and often useless information. This became increasingly frustrating.
The captain and crew were wonderful and we had a lot of fun and enjoyed ourselves. It was our second cruise on the Olympia and we have booked again for next year.
The worst part of the holiday, was the 2 day coach journey to meet the ship and back home at the end of the holiday. Whilst it is the cheaper option, it is very, very tedious. So we have paid the extra and are flying out to meet the ship next year.
Overall, a good value holiday and easy to relax and have fun.

Very good, much as we expected. The main problem for us was the travelling to and from the ship from u.k..It would have been better to extend the holiday by two days, and have two overnight stops on route both ways,at extra cost of course, with a chance of seeing a little of the area at the stops, and be more relaxed at final destinations. As we don't fly now a coach is the only way of getting abroad

A very enjoyable holiday with the exception of the long coach mourned! Whilst driver Jim was excellent, and coach very comfortable, we were not prepared for the two long days journey there and back. Excursions to Vienna were disappointing and gave no time to appreciate the beauty of the City. Would suggest excursion includes the option of visit to Palace at same time rather than return to ship for lunch then out again.
Cruise director whilst pleasant and friendly was rather patronising in addressing passengers who were made to feel like 5 year olds on occasions.
Overall though a wonderful holiday thank you.

We would not go on this trip again due to the long travel time leaving King's Lynn at five am and arriving at Frankfurt at ten thirty pm. Also the journey from hotel to boat arriving at eight pm the next day. Our cabin was very noisy and we had very little sleep while the boat was travelling all night. I could not recommend this holiday to any of my friends. I spoke to Sue when we got back home and she said we should put this through your complaints department.
