Itinerary

Day One

Fly to Germany, and transfer directly to the Olympia. Depending upon your arrival time, you may be able to explore the delightful 'Pearl of the Rhine', Boppard, which sits on the southern side of a great horseshoe bend in the river, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage region of the Upper/Middle Rhine.

Day Two

Early risers will be awake to see Olympia begin her journey, passing fairytale castles and beneath the legendary Lorelei rock (where sirens were said to lure unsuspecting sailors to their end), to alight at Rudesheim.

Here the famous Drosselgasse - lined with Weinstuben (wine taverns) and restaurants - bustles with life. Spend the afternoon soaking up the atmosphere of Rudesheim's famous Christmas market, which features Europe's largest Nativity Scene, then perhaps join our late-afternoon optional excursion to an early evening wine tasting and to see the remarkable collection of musical instruments that are found in Siegfried's Musikkabinett.

Day Three

Around lunchtime, Olympia will arrive in Koblenz, at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Step ashore to take in the atmosphere as you wander the stalls of the town's own Christmas Market, pausing to watch the skaters on the market's rink.

Alternatively, join our optional excursion to Cochem. Situated alongside the Moselle River, this pretty town of quaint cottages and winding streets hosts an excellent Christmas market in its beautiful medieval square.

Later, enjoy a final evening aboard Olympia, perhaps taking part in a quiz, or simply enjoying a performance by the on-board pianist.

Day Four

Bid "auf wiedersehen" to Olympia and this captivating part of the world as you return to the airport for your flight home.

Further Information

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Optional shore excursions

Optional excursions are available on all cruises, and we recommend that you book now to secure your place. If the number of bookings needed to operate any excursion is not reached, the excursion may be cancelled. In this case your payment will be refunded in full.

Tipping

Tipping is not compulsory, but from experience we know that many passengers like to leave gratuities for the crew. An envelope will be left in your cabin for this purpose.

Dress code

The dress code on board and ashore is casual. After 7pm, in the lounge and restaurant, shorts are not permitted, and footwear and a shirt or T-shirt must be worn.

Luggage

Where possible, non-rigid suitcases are easier to store within your cabin.

Drinking water

The tap water on board is safe to drink, but may not be to your taste due to the purification system. Bottled water can be purchased on board and locally.

Itinerary changes

On rare occasions, the Captain may need to alter the Cruise Itinerary. If this happens, the Cruise Manager will keep passengers informed.

Cabin sizes

The majority of cabins on board are 10.5m square. Single cabins are approximately 7.7m square. (These measurements include the bathroom.) Standard Promenade cabins are 15m square and most have double beds (which do not convert to sofas), but they do not have a table or stool and will by subject to engine noise during overnight and early morning sailing.

Very enjoyable break which I would recommend to family or friends. Ship is not biggest or most refined in terms of luxury but was fit for purpose and maintained clean with good standard of decor and was priced to reflect good value for money. All staff were very polite and helpful including rep at airport. There was a minor hiccup meeting the rep at the airport on arrival which appeared to be caused by the fact that passengers who only had carry on luggage left the baggage hall by a different exit from passengers with hold luggage. Could I recommend for future trips a designated a meeting point is detailed in joining instructions possibly the designated meeting point for the airport which some passengers were directed to by airport staff.

I was disappointed by the lack of communication between the company and guests on arrival at the airport. We were not told exactly where to meet their rep. We were not told the length of time it takes between airport and ship. On departure we we put on the coach and left to get on with it, considering the size of Frankfurt airport this was not very helpful. One of the guests had a disabled child and he got no support on getting to the airport. Tour manager did very little to help them on departure.

The cruise itself and the crew on the ship were excellent. Getting to the ship was a let down as we were dropped off a twenty five minute walk from the ship with no explanation as to where we were to go. I did however manage to contact the ship and crew members were dispatched to help with our luggage. When we arrived at the ship at 1pm freezing cold and wet from our walk we were told we could check in to our rooms but no refreshments were available until 5pm, so had to walk back to the town in the rain and cold to get a cup of tea. I also think the drinks package should be available for individuals and not just per cabin. The experience of getting from the ship back to Cologne airport was a nightmare, it was cold and we were dropped off a ten minute walk from the train station where we expected to store our luggage in the locker system and would like to know if anyone from Newmarket travel have ever tried this!!!!!!. We were then expected to spend a whole day wandering round town before being collected at 6.00 to be taken to the airport. It was not made clear who would be collecting us and from where and when the mini bus driver eventually arrived he was surprised that we had luggage with us. As the youngest member on the bus my husband was left to load all of the luggage on to the back of the bus as the driver just opened the doors and stood to one side. On arrival at the airport we were deposited at the wrong terminal and had another half hour walk to get to the correct terminal only to be told that we could not check our luggage in for another hour as we were too early. One of the single rooms occupied by our party was at the top of the staff staircase and constantly smelled of sewage. We did ask about moving but were told that there were no cabins available even though we heard the staff talking about empty cabins downstairs.

Great holiday despite rather wet weather. Our only slight reservation would be the travel from airport to the ship and return flight( no fault of newmarket holidays but it was delayed for about 2 hours and we had already been taken to the airport about an hour too early to check in) However the cruise , food ,service and accommodation far exceeded our expectations. Would be good to have jug of water included in the meal and kettle in bedroom but small problems.
