  • Make your own way to the Jurys Inn hotel in Oxford. Upon arrival enjoy a refreshing tea or coffee, together with cake, as your luggage is taken to your room.

Once you’ve settled into your new surroundings, you’ll have the chance to meet your fellow guests this evening as a three-course meal with wine is served in the hotel restaurant.

  • After breakfast, join your friendly tour manager for an included half-day tour of Oxford that brings to life ‘The City of Dreaming Spires’. Famous for the honey-coloured colleges of one of the world’s greatest universities, the city’s compact centre, ringed by picturesque waterways and scenic meadows, is perfect for exploring on foot. At its medieval heart is the 18th-century Covered Market and a maze of pretty streets exuding festive charm. Dotted throughout the city are the colleges, each with its own unique character, from majestic Christ Church to striking New College. Other major sights include the Bodleian Library and the Radcliffe Camera, familiar to devotees of ‘Inspector Morse’ or ‘Harry Potter’. After the tour, perhaps take a seat in a cosy café.

Return to the hotel to rest and relax, before this evening brings more opportunities to get in the spirit with your new-found friends, as you enjoy a special New Year’s Eve gala dinner before seeing in the New Year with music and a glass of bubbly.

  • After a full English breakfast, join new-found friends on an included tour by coach of the beautiful Cotswolds, a delightful region of picturesque honey-coloured stone villages and unspoilt countryside. The tour begins at Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’ with its picturesque low arched stone bridges across the River Windrush. You may wish to explore St. Lawrence’s Church with its unique domed tower, visit the Model Railway Exhibition and Toyshop, or the Perfume or Motor Car museums, if open.

Continue to Stow-on-the-Wold, a nearby scenic market town that sits just off the Roman Fosse Way. Wander through the charming town centre, exploring the medieval St Edward’s Church, its north door flanked by yew trees, or browse the wonderful range of independent shops that line the Market Square. Perhaps you’ll choose to simply enjoy a seat in one of the town’s many tea-rooms or cafés as you watch the world pass by.

Time permitting, take in Chipping Campden, one of the region’s best-preserved towns, with its unusual curved high street lined with ancient buildings, and St James’ Church, home to England’s oldest altar tapestry.

This evening, enjoy a farewell three-course meal with wine and some after-dinner entertainment – the perfect way to round off New Year’s Day and a wonderful break.

  • After a last breakfast, bid your new-found friends and hosts farewell and begin your journey home, at the end of a delightful New Year break in the heart of England.

Further Information

  • Rules may have changed since you last travelled to European Union countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The following are useful guidelines which will help you prepare for your next adventure. Note that these new rules do NOT apply when travelling within the United Kingdom or to the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or the Republic of Ireland. You do require government issued ID when travelling by air though.

It is very important that all passenger names are exactly as per your passport although we do not require middle names.

Your passport must meet two requirements to travel to an EU country and to Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. It must be:

    • Less than 10 years old on the day you return home – please check the "date of issue"
    • Valid for at least 3 months after the day you return home – please check the "expiry date"

These rules do not apply to travel to Ireland where you can continue to use your passport as long as it’s valid for the length of your stay.

If you’re a tourist, you do not need a visa for short trips to most EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. You’ll be able to stay for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. Different rules will apply to Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Romania; if you visit these countries, visits to other EU countries will not count towards the 90-day total. Travel to Ireland will not change and stays there will not count towards the 90-day total.

European Travel Information & Authorisation System (ETIAS)

Towards the end of 2022, it is likely that non EU citizens will be required to apply online for an authorisation to visit most European countries. The current details suggest there will be a charge of €7 per person and the authorisation will be valid for all trips made to the EU in a three year period from issue. We will advise you of confirmed details prior to your tour’s departure.

    Border Control

At border control, you may need to show proof of your return journey - your travel documentation issued by us will be sufficient for this. You will also need to use separate lanes from EU, EEA and Swiss citizens if manual checks are required.

    Healthcare Cover

You should always get appropriate travel insurance with healthcare cover before you go abroad which covers pre-existing conditions. You should understand the terms and conditions of your travel insurance and be happy with its cover for healthcare and travel disruption. Newmarket sell a comprehensive travel insurance policy. Ask our travel consultants for more information.

You should also apply for a UK Global Heath Insurance Card (GHIC) which lets you get urgent state healthcare in Europe at a reduced cost or sometimes for free. Note GHIC is only valid in EU countries and not in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
