Alaska Cruise and the Canadian Rockies Holiday Itinerary

Day One: Fly to Calgary and continue to Banff

Fly direct to Calgary, home to the famous 'Stampede', and continue on into the majestic Rockies, to Banff, for a two-night stay.

Day Two: Explore Banff

Join the optional guided tour this morning and explore Banff, undisputed 'capital' of the Rockies. Take in Surprise Corner for exquisite views of the iconic Banff Springs Hotel and venture to the summit of Sulphur Mountain by cable car. In the afternoon, perhaps join our exhilarating helicopter flight over the mountains.

Day Three: Visit Lake Louise and travel along the Icefields Parkway to Jasper

Today we'll call at beautiful Lake Louise, where turquoise waters - frozen for much of the year - are set against the awesome backdrop of the Victoria Glacier. We'll then travel the renowned Icefields Parkway - a spectacular journey through the heart of the Rockies - before continuing to Jasper, in scenic Jasper National Park.

Day Four: Continue your journey through the Rockies to Sun Peaks

Your wonderful journey west continues, past majestic Mount Robson - the highest point in the Rockies - to the mountain resort of Sun Peaks and another overnight stay.

Day Five: Travel to Vancouver and board your cruise ship

Descending through the Coastal Ranges towards the Pacific and the beautiful city of Vancouver, board your ship for a late afternoon sailing into the Inside Passage and the wilderness State of Alaska, and settle into your cabin - your home for the next seven nights.

Day Six: Cruise along the Inside Passage

As we cruise north, through the scenic Inside Passage, you can relax and enjoy the ship's vast range of facilities and dining opportunities.

Day Seven: Call at Juneau

Today we'll make an afternoon and evening call at the Alaskan capital, Juneau, in its awe-inspiring setting at the foot of the magnificent mountains from which the immense Mendenhall Glacier flows. Optional shore excursions today will include tours and exhilarating activities such as kayaking or dogsledding.

Day Eight: Visit Skagway

Enjoy a full day at Skagway, northernmost point of the cruise and our last stop before the Yukon. Part of the setting for Jack London's iconic book 'The Call of the Wild', Skagway is still a pioneering town of honky-tonk saloons and Klondike memorabilia.

Day Nine: Sail through Glacier Bay

Today we'll take a breathtaking cruise into Glacier Bay. Marvel at the ever-changing glacial seascape of this renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site where the silence is punctuated by the thunderous sound of ice splitting and crashing, in great chunks, into the water.

Day 10: Explore Ketchikan

The colourful town of Ketchikan, its wooden houses built over the water, is our last port of call. You will have the opportunity to join the optional shore excursion to the remote Misty Fjords National Monument, a vast wilderness reserve where some of Alaska's most spectacular scenery can be found.

Day 11: Sail back along the Inside Passage

Enjoy a last day at sea as we cruise back south along the Inside Passage and the east coast of Vancouver Island.

Day 12: Arrive in Vancouver

Arrive early in the delightful coastal city of Vancouver and transfer to your downtown hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city.

Day 13: See the sights of Vancouver

On today's optional guided tour of Vancouver you'll discover restored Gastown, the kaleidoscopic thoroughfares of Chinatown, and the glass and steel wonders of the Burrard Inlet waterfront. You'll also be able to explore the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Afterwards, explore at your leisure.

Day 14: Enjoy the chance to visit Vancouver Island

Join an optional tour, sailing through the Gulf Islands to Vancouver Island where you'll visit Victoria, the charming, colonial Provincial capital set around the beautiful Inner Harbour, as well as the world-famous Butchart Gardens.

Day 15: Spend a final morning in Vancouver and transfer to the airport

Spend a free morning exploring or perhaps searching out last-minute souvenirs, before transferring to the airport for your overnight flight home.

Day 16: Arrive home

Arrive back in the UK after a wonderful holiday.

Further information

Passports and visas

When travelling to Canada and the US state of Alaska, British citizens require passports with an integrated chip (shown on the front by a small rectangular symbol beneath the word PASSPORT). The passport must also be valid for 90 days after the return date of the tour. Visas are not normally required for entry, but visitors must apply online for both an eTA with Canadian Immigration (available at ) and an ESTA with US Immigration (available at and must be completed at least 72 hours before departure). The current charges are 7 Canadian dollars and 14 US dollars respectively for British citizens. British subjects, and anyone who has a criminal record or has ever been arrested, should consult both the US and Canadian Embassies as a visa may be required.
If you have visited Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia or Yemen since March 2011, or have dual nationality with any of these countries, you do require a US visa and cannot travel on the ESTA Visa Waiver Programme.

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately 90 minutes.

Changes to your itinerary

Please note that the itinerary is reversed for the departure on 17th September 2016, starting in Vancouver and ending in Calgary. It will depart from London Heathrow, instead of from London Gatwick, and fly with Air Canada.

On your flight

All outbound flights depart and arrive on the same day. All return flights leave in the evening and land in the UK the next day. On-board meals will usually include lunch and a snack on outward flights, and dinner and breakfast on flight home. Soft drinks are complimentary, but some airlines will charge for alcoholic drinks.

Luggage allowance

You are permitted to take one suitcase per person on the aircraft, which should not exceed 23kg.

Shore excursions

Shore excursions during the cruise can be booked on board the ship.

Gratuities are a way of life in North America, and it is generally accepted that they form part of a person's earnings. Customary gratuity to a coach driver and tour manager is about $5 per person per day; in a taxi or a restaurant leave 15-20 per cent of the bill and in a bar leave a dollar or so per drink. Gratuities on board Holland America Line ships are not included in your holiday price, and are automatically charged at a cost of $11.50 per person per day.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Changes to your hotels

Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in alternative hotels, of a similar standard, nearby. Full details of your hotels will be sent with your Final Travel Documents.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Hotel rooms

Standard hotel rooms in North America will contain one or two double- or queen-sized beds, and it is not possible to add extra beds to the room. Parties consisting of more than two travellers, but who have only booked one room, will be expected to make use of the two beds provided. If this is a concern, you may wish to consider booking more than one room for your group.

**The £100 discount offer applies to new bookings on worldwide air-inclusive holidays made between 28th December 2017 and 5th March 2018 (inclusive). Prices shown when booking do not include the discount. The discount will be applied to your booking once the promo code (JANLH8) has been entered and will be confirmed before purchase.

Bradwell Couple
Very scenic holiday, coach trip days were too long, would go by Rockies Mountaineer if we went again. Tour guide was very knowledgeable but constantly talked nearly all day, did not give us time to just enjoy the scenery in peace.

Edinburgh Couple
A fabulous and unforgettable holiday. Great value and would highly recommend. Optional excursions a bit pricey . The rip over the rockies was truly main and the coach I reckon is the best way to do it. The Alaska cruise and the trips ashore were first rate to many unforgettable sights to mention. Nothing to complain about. This is our third Newmarket Tour and we shall be back for a fourth soon.
