Days One to Seven
Fly to Sydney and enjoy a three-night stay here before your cruise. With its iconic Opera House, Harbour Bridge and famous beaches, this fun-loving city is the perfect place to begin your adventure. Settle into your cabin, enjoy the first of many delicious dinners and get to know your travelling companions.
Magellan calls at privately owned Hamilton Island, on the Whitsundays archipelago named for Captain Cook's arrival date in 1770. Spend a lazy day here, take a boat to the other islands or search out stupendous views offered by glass lifts in the resort hotels.
Call at the former gold town Townsville, which boasts the impressive Museum of Tropical Queensland, and a gateway to the bush beyond the city. It's close to beautiful Magnetic Island, where koala bears can sometimes be seen clinging to the eucalyptus trees.
Two days in sun-baked Cairns bring opportunities to take a glass-bottomed boat to a coral cay - or head inland on an excursion to the magnificent tropical rainforest of the Atherton Tablelands.
Sail round the Cape York Peninsula, through the Arafura Sea, to your final Australian call - the classic frontier town of Darwin. Take a shore excursion to discover swamps, mangroves, salt-water crocodiles and ancient aboriginal art at Kakadu National Park, before you bid farewell to Australia.
Today, a first Indonesian island call offers the possibility of seeing the fearsome Monitor Lizard. The legendary giant 'dragons' are found only here and neighbouring Rinca, so join a National Park ranger to explore. Magellan sails this afternoon, heading towards the next paradise isle.
Magellan stays overnight at Bali's port of Benoa, a welcoming, colourful place. Go ashore by tender to discover some of the delights of the south of the island, or take an excursion to explore further afield.
The fascinating old town and colourful Chinese quarter of Semerang, the former Dutch colonial outpost on Java, radiates charm. Step ashore to explore or to join an optional shore excursion to discover the world's biggest Buddhist shrine, at Borobudur.
A cruise through the South China Sea brings you to oil-rich Brunei, with its preserved rainforests and its capital Bandar Seri Begawan. High points include the stupendous Omar Saifuddien Mosque and the Royal Regalia Building (housing the Sultan's priceless treasures), and don't miss the delightful water village at Kampong Ayer.
Kota Kinabalu is the idyllic principal settlement of the state of Sabah, close to Malaysia's highest peak. Discover its mix of Chinese, Malay, expatriate European and local cultures, and perhaps take a shore excursion into the interior before Magellan sails on across the South China Sea.
Raised from the ruins of WWII, the prosperous capital of the Philippines is a jaw-dropping, cosmopolitan melting pot of cultures. While Old Manila provides an insight to the city's past, and the restored cathedral reflects its status as Asia's largest Christian settlement, reminders of its long-term ties with the west can be seen throughout.
Your final days, in Hong Kong, bring lots of opportunities to discover an enthralling metropolis at the end of your cruise adventure. Explore by yourself, or choose from optional excursions and view the skyscrapers from Victoria Peak, visit floating city Aberdeen and colourful Stanley Market, cross Victoria Harbour on the Star Ferry or take in the North Shore's spectacular skyline and buzzing Nathan Road.
On your second day here you'll also bid farewell to Magellan as she continues her voyage and you transfer to your Hong Kong hotel for the final three nights.
Check out of your hotel, and head to the airport to catch your flight home.
