All days not listed are spent at sea enjoying the excellent facilities aboard Magellan. Ports of call may be subject to change.
Your cruise begins with an outbound flight and a three-night hotel stay in the amazing city of Hong Kong. Take in the skyline with its forest of skyscrapers, Victoria Peak, and the famous Star Ferry crossing the harbour.
Days One to Five
Once on board Magellan, explore the ship and settle in to your comfortable cabin as you embark on a wonderful voyage.
Cruising into bewitching, UNESCO-listed Halong Bay, see the countless limestone pillars, cone-shaped islands, and the sails of junks and pleasure craft that result in a spectacular seascape.
An optional shore excursion will introduce Vietnamese capital Hanoi, with its peaceful Hoan Kiem Lake, its island Ngoc Son Templel, and the labyrinthine '36 Streets'. Other highlights might include the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the former leader's traditional house, colourful Dong Xuan market and the fascinating Museum of Ethnology.
Gateway to central Vietnam's stunning beaches and ancient treasures, the tiny port of Chan May is your next port of call. Shore excursions might include pretty riverside Hoi An, with its traditional buildings, or to the imperial city of Hue, where the tombs of emperors hide behind imposing walls.
An overnight stay close to Vietnam's famous Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), brings opportunities to join fascinating optional shore excursions. Visit the remarkable Cu Chi tunnel complex - a former Viet Cong base - or the Mekong Delta's scenic landscape of rice paddies, orchards and colourful market towns.
Your last stop on the South China Sea brings an overnight stay in Singapore. See remnants of this dynamic island-city's history - in Little India, China Town, the Colonial District and Raffles Hotel - plus glitzy malls and Marina Bay's futuristic wonders. Shop, sightsee or join optional excursions to experience it all.
Arrive on the Malaysian coast at historic Port Klang, bound for Kuala Lumpur. The Malay capital boasts spectacular sights, including the sky-piercing Petronas Towers. Shore excursions will reveal this buzzing, cosmopolitan city, where the preserved Old Railway Station contrasts with sparkling new developments.
Feast your senses in Penang, the colourful, Malaysian 'Pearl of the Orient'. You'll find sensational street food as well as stunning beaches and breathtaking tropical gardens, Chinese shophouses and the UNESCO-listed George Town.
Island paradise Phuket, with its luxurious developments, rubber plantations and bustling main town, provides a last 'taste of the east', or perhaps a last visit to an idyllic beach for a few days, before Magellan heads west across the Andaman Sea and into the Indian Ocean.
Arrive in the Indian sub-continent at Chennai, formerly 'Madras', the country's fourth-largest city. 'Clive of India' once worked here, at historic Fort St George, as a humble clerk for the East India Company.
Optional shore excursions will reveal relics of the Raj at the Fort Museum, Marina Beach, the Chepauk Cricket Stadium and St Mary's Church, the oldest British building in India, or Kanchipuram, a city of 1000 temples, renowned for its exquisite hand-woven silks and saris.
Spend an afternoon in Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, for a chance to explore the bustling city. See the restored Fort area and the ancient street markets of Pettah, or perhaps to take a shore excursion into the lush, temple-dotted countryside.
Male, the capital of the Maldives archipelago, is dominated by the dome of the Friday Mosque, and is a wonderfully colourful, bustling place. Enjoy this last Asian call before Magellan heads across the Arabian Sea.
Following more relaxing days aboard your floating home-from-home, arrive in Salalah, the 'Perfume Capital of Arabia'. Oman's second city is an ancient settlement connected to a beautiful landscape of frankincense trees and coconut palms. Step ashore to explore the ancient Khor Rori ruins, and to discover the city.
From the Red Sea port of Safaga, you can enjoy a full-day excursion to Luxor, once the ancient Egyptian capital Thebes. See the temples at Luxor and Karnak, the vast columns of the Hypostyle Hall, and the awe-inspiring Valley of the Kings - where Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon discovered Tutankhamun's tomb.
Another unforgettable excursion can be taken from the Jordanian resort of Aqaba to the oasis of Wadi Musa. It's the site of the 'Rose Red' City of Petra, famously carved out of the sandstone. The excursion to the 'long-lost' city also takes in Wadi Rum's mesmerising desert landscape.
Passage through the world's most famous - and busiest - waterway, the Suez Canal, returns Magellan to the Mediterranean. Enjoy a quintet of calls in the spring warmth, here.
Another exciting day awaits at Ashdod, gateway to Israel and the Holy Land. There's the chance to visit coastal resort city Tel Aviv, with its ancient neighbour Jaffa, or Jerusalem itself, with its Wailing Wall, the City's souks and Christianity's holiest shrine - the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Magellan's final Mediterranean island call is Malta, with its stunning natural Grand Harbour at Valletta. Explore the surrounding streets, or head into the rugged interior - perhaps Mdina, the haunting 'silent city'.
A morning call in Gibraltar - 'more British than Britain' - brings a taste of home. Wander past the familiar shops on Main Street, or perhaps take the cable-car to the top of the Rock and look across the Straits to Africa.
The ship's final call - perhaps appropriately - is the great city of Lisbon, to which many an adventurer returned from far-off voyages. A last shore excursion will introduce the Portuguese capital, before Magellan begins her two-day passage home.
Arrive back in Tilbury, taking with you memories of an amazing voyage.
