Ship Information

At 46,000-tonnes and with a passenger complement of around 1100, spacious Magellan retains a sense of traditional cruising and small-ship intimacy, thanks to the beautiful layout and tasteful contemporary style of her public areas, and of course the presence of her friendly, welcoming crew and cruise staff. A major refit in 2010 has ensured her position as a thoroughly modern, bright and supremely comfortable floating home, and she is a hugely welcome addition to the fleet.

Day One

Magellan slips away from her home port on Thursday evening as you familiarise yourself with the ship and enjoy the first of dozens of wonderful dinners in the company of your fellow adventurers.

Day Two

For her first call, Magellan visits the delightful Dutch capital and its famous canals.

From here it's south towards Spain and into the Atlantic as you enjoy lazy days that will become discernibly warmer, and take advantage of the ship's many amenities.

Day Seven

Arrive in the verdant, mid-Atlantic Azores archipelago for a welcome opportunity to step ashore and explore Ponta Delgada. This historic city has been a stopping-off point for transatlantic sailors down the centuries.

Day 14

Today Magellan arrives in Bridgetown, Barbados, a colourful, cricket-loving gateway to some of the Caribbean's most highly favoured watering holes.

Day 16

Your second Caribbean island call is at laid-back Curacao's capital Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage site and full of colonial charm.

Day 17

On beautiful Aruba, there are both pristine tropical beaches to enjoy and European influences to be seen in the step-gabled houses.

Day 19

Spend a day journeying from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean along the Panama Canal, the waterway that connects the two bodies of water even as it separates the two 'halves' of the Americas.

Day 23

One-time playground of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and JFK, Acapulco offers a taste of Mexico's vibrant energies, today. Explore an idyllic setting that has withstood the tests of both time and tourist development before Magellan sails westward.

Day 35

Idyllic Tahiti - perhaps the most famous of all the South Pacific islands - is your next stop. Discover a setting straight out of a Gauguin painting in the colourful, bustling capital, Pape'ete, with its historic Le Marche market, lush Vaipaha Gardens and gorgeous lagoon.

Day 32

After a week of balmy days at sea, French Polynesia's 118 tiny islands - dotted across an area the size of Europe but with a land mass smaller than Kent - provide a breathtaking break. Magellan calls, first, at Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Isles, for the opportunity to step ashore and explore pretty Taiohae.

Day 36

Today, legendary Bora Bora, a quintessential island paradise, with mountains, lagoons and sublime beaches, completes Magellan's trio of French Polynesian calls.

Day 43

Cross the International Date Line, You'll then arrive in Auckland, a city where some 20 per cent of the inhabitants have Maori or South Pacific origins. Perhaps visit the Auckland Museum, with its priceless carvings and artefacts, or take a trip up the 328-metre Sky Tower for some outstanding views.

Day 45

Crossing the Cook Strait, Magellan makes a last Kiwi call in the cosmopolitan capital, Wellington, where you'll find striking modern architecture, colourful Botanic Gardens and a host of bars, restaurants and cafes, before continuing across the Tasman Sea.

Days 50-51

Fun-loving Sydney is truly one of the world's great cities, with attractions such as the iconic Opera House, Harbour Bridge and famous beaches to explore. Enjoy two days in this vibrant city.

Day 54

Privately owned Hamilton Island is set on Whitsundays archipelago - (named for Captain Cook's arrival date). Take a boat to the other islands from the pretty waterfront, or seek out a resort hotel with a glass lift for an amazing view, as you spend a lazy day here.

Day 55

In bustling former gold town, Townsville, you might like to visit the impressive Museum of Tropical Queensland or perhaps even head to beautiful Magnetic Island, where koala bears can often be seen clinging to the eucalyptus trees.

Days 56-57

Continue your Australian exploration with time in sun-baked Cairns. There will be opportunities to take a glass-bottomed boat to a coral cay - as this is the stopping-off for the extraordinary Great Barrier Reef - or head inland on an excursion into magnificent tropical rainforest of the Atherton Tablelands.

Day 61

Sail round the Cape York Peninsula, and through the Arafura Sea, to Darwin. Here a shore excursion to the World Heritage Site of the Kakadu National Park will reveal swamps, mangroves, salt-water crocodiles and ancient aboriginal art - a memorable farewell to your time in Australia.

Day 64

Today, a first Indonesian island call offers the possibility of seeing the fearsome Monitor Lizard. The legendary giant 'dragons' are found only here and neighbouring Rinca, so join a National Park ranger to explore. Magellan sails this afternoon, heading towards the next paradise isle.

Day 65-66

Magellan stays overnight in Bali's port of Benoa, gateway to an island that is as colourful, lovely and welcoming as any on the planet. Go ashore by tender to discover some of the delights of the island's south, or join an excursion to explore further afield.

Day 68

The charms of former Dutch colonial outpost Semerang, in Java, include a fascinating old town and a colourful Chinese quarter. And our time here will also bring the opportunity to discover the world's biggest Buddhist shrine, at Borobudur, on a shore excursion.

Day 71

Arrive in oil-rich Brunei, for the chance to visit its capital - Bandar Seri Begawan. Here, highlights include the stupendous Omar Saifuddien Mosque, and the Royal Regalia Building housing the Sultan's priceless treasures. The delightful water village at Kampong Ayer is also well worth a visit.

Day 72

Today brings another chance to experience Malaysia's mix of Chinese, Malay, expatriate European and local cultures, in idyllic Kota Kinabalu. Take a shore excursion into the interior before Magellan continues her voyage, and crosses the South China Sea.

Day 74

Raised from the ruins of WWII, the prosperous capital of the Philippines is a jaw-dropping, cosmopolitan melting pot of cultures. While Old Manila provides an insight to the city's past, and the restored cathedral reflects its status as Asia's largest Christian settlement, reminders of its long-term ties with the west can be seen throughout.

Days 76-77

Conclude your cruise with two full days in exciting Hong Kong. Step ashore to explore, or choose from a range of optional excursions. There'll be chances to take the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour, view skyscrapers from Victoria Peak, visit Aberdeen's 'floating city' and colourful Stanley Market, or enjoy the North Shore's spectacular skyline and lively Nathan Road.

Disembark to enjoy the city before you travel home at the end of a wonderful cruise.
