A Yuletide paradise

Join us in delightful Riva del Garda for a wonderful festive break. Visit the Christmas markets at Bolzano, "the Italian Capital of Christmas", and Merano, in the shadow of the majestic Dolomite mountains. You'll also have the chance to discover incomparable Venice and 'Romeo and Juliet's' Verona, in all their sparkling festive glory.

Tour Highlights And Inclusions

  • Visits to the Christmas markets in Bolzano and Merano
  • Four nights' half-board accommodation at a four-star hotel in Riva del Garda
  • Return flights to Italy
  • Return airport-to-hotel transfers
  • One piece of hold luggage per couple
  • The services of a friendly, experienced Tour Manager
  • Government taxes and service charges

Single rooms are available for a supplement. For single travellers, one piece of hold luggage is included.

Day One

Fly from your selected airport to Italy, and transfer to your hotel in Riva del Garda, on Lake Garda's northern shore.

Day Two

Today's included excursion is to two wonderful Christmas markets.

At the spa town of Merano, the aroma of gluhwein and strudel, and the sounds of Christmas music fill the air. Wander between stalls laden with traditional handicrafts and regional delicacies like smoked raw pork, traditional country-style bread, Meraner Lebkuchenmilch and apple schnapps.

The wonderful Christmas Market on the Piazza Walther lives up to Bolzano's reputation as "the Italian capital of Christmas". Local craftsfolk ply their wares, while the foodstuffs on offer fuse the flavours of the north with the tastes of the Mediterranean south. Sample the excellent local vintages, and perhaps take back a bottle or two for your own Christmas table.

Day Three

Relax in Riva, or join our half-day optional excursion to beautiful Verona. Set on the banks of the River Adige, this medieval gem's festive focal point is its traditional crib exhibition (which usually opens on 1st December, with entrance payable locally), featuring 400 displays from across the world, and the gigantic white iron 'star' that towers over the central Piazza Bra next to the ancient Roman amphitheatre.

Day Four

Join today's optional excursion to mysterious Venice. Wander through its labyrinth of alleys and waterways, and discover the spectacular St Mark's Square and Cathedral, the Doge's Palace, the famous Rialto Bridge and the historic Bridge of Sighs.

Day Five

Transfer back to the airport for check-in and your flight home.

Further Information

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately one hour from Verona, two hours from Bergamo and three hours from Milan.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Entrance fees

Since some attractions visited offer free admission to visitors at certain times of year, we do not include entrance fees. These will be payable locally where applicable. This applies to excursions that are included in the price of your holiday and to excursions booked as optional extras.

Italian hotel room tax

Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 EURO and 3 EURO per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your Tour Manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.

Luggage Allowance

Please note that for two people travelling together on one booking, or a single traveler, one piece of hold luggage is included. Additional hold luggage may be purchased at the time of booking at a cost of £30 per bag.

Whilst the trips and excursions were good, some shorter travel options to say a vineyard, lake trip, local authentic restaurants may be better since the transfer times were generally too long.

This was our first visit to Italy and the scenery was amazing. The hotel was well situated, warm and comfortable, however the main meals were not up to the standard we would have liked. The flights to and from Italy with Ryanair were excellent however we were kept waiting on the plane for 25 mins on landing at Stanstead, whilst someone opened the airport arrival doors to allow us off the plane, the passport scanners were very slow and the airport parking exit did not recognise anyone's pre-paid parking causing a long delay, this is not acceptable and we will therefore not use Stanstead again. Well done Newmarket another enjoyable holiday with you, thank you.

Well organised lovely rep lyn. Trips excellent. Only thing that let it down was evening meal. Not much choice and fairly small portions. Hotel otherwise clean, comfortable and staff pleasant and helpful. Really good holiday would go again.

Witney, Oxfordshire Couple
Started badly when charged ?40 for extra case at airport, (I had not been made aware of the one case between two policy), still awaiting reply regarding complaint. Overall, a good break, location, xmas markets and tour managers were all superb. I would rate the hotel a good 3 star rather than 4 star. The first night was very confusing in the restaurant, with the Newmarket group being made to feel a bit like 'second class citizens' compared to the service provided to the other guests. However, the food was generally good, with a choice of two main dishes each evening after the 'take it or leave it' first night. The TV had 100 + channels unfortunately only 1 was in English, BBC World news. The coaches were comfortable and the tour managers very informative and helpful. I'd go again.
