MY Nature Resort, Sandakan (night 4)
A haven for nature lovers, this eco-friendly resort is located in one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world. There is plenty to keep you occupied in the resort’s 25 acres, including a long boardwalk that runs alongside the forest where you may be lucky enough to spot different species of birds and monkeys. The resort has a restaurant and an attractive swimming pool, and each room has a balcony overlooking the rainforest.
Abai Jungle Lodge, Kinabatangan River (nights 5-6)
This simple, rustic, yet welcoming lodge is set in a remote spot on the banks of the Kinabatangan River, approximately one hour by boat from Sandakan. The lodge is built on stilts, and has wildlife on its doorstep including monkeys, eagles and (if you’re very lucky) the occasional orangutan. Further wildlife can be seen from the lodges’ nature walks and bird-watching towers. The lodge has a restaurant, and each room has a ceiling fan and a private bathroom.

Located on top of a hill and surrounded by tea plantations and forests, this resort is a welcome retreat from the warmth of coastal Malaysian weather.
