Your Itinerary

  • Fly to Glasgow where you'll be met by our Tour Manager. Explore the terraced squares and crescents, fantastic shops, and excellent art galleries and museums of this fascinating city before we continue to our hotel where dinner will be served.

  • After a leisurely morning we'll return to Edinburgh. After our short orientation city tour, on which you'll see Jenners - the oldest department store in the world - the Castle, St Giles Cathedral, the Princes Street Gardens, the Sir Walter Scott monument and the Royal Mile, you'll be free to explore, and perhaps visit Holyroodhouse (entry fee payable locally).

In the early evening we'll head to the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle for the Military Tattoo - the highlight of our visit - a fantastic evening of music and colour, pomp and pageantry. At the end of the evening the coach will return you to the hotel.

  • This morning we head to the Trossachs, a beautiful and history-steeped area of mountains, lochs, rivers and woods. Our first stop will be the little village of Aberfoyle from where we'll head to Balloch on the southern shores of Loch Lomond.

After the chance to have lunch we'll take an hour-long circular cruise on one of the most scenic parts of the Loch, enjoying the views of Ben Lomond and several loch-side castles and stately homes, before reboarding the coach to head to Luss. Here you can relax over a cup of tea or perhaps enjoy a short stroll by the "bonnie banks" of the Loch.

  • Today we'll visit the remarkable Falkirk Wheel. Should you decide to ride the wheel you'll board one of the special boats, sail into the bottom caisson of the Wheel and ascend gracefully to join the Union Canal above. You'll then pass under the historic Antonine Wall before returning to the Wheel for an effortless descent.

After time to explore the visitor centre, we'll return to Glasgow and head to the airport to check in for your flight home.

Further Information

  • The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately one hour.

  • We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.
  • You may like to upgrade your seat for the Tattoo. The seats are located in stands in a U shape around the castle esplanade. The more expensive the seats the further away they are from the open part of the U, which is where the acts emerge onto the esplanade.
  • There is a short but steeply inclined walk of 80 metres up Castlehill, the old cobbled approach to the Esplanade. There is then a further 60-metre walk on average, followed by steps up to the spectator stands where generally, the seating is quite steeply tiered. You will have plenty of time to make your way to and from the Esplanade and will be able to go at your own pace. Wheelchairs can be sited at ground level under the North stand at all performances and disabled toilets are available on the Esplanade.
  • The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
  • Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.
  • If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.
