Celebrate in Southern Germany
Spend an unforgettable Christmas week in an Alpine paradise, where your hosts will fill your days with Bavarian Gemutlichkeit - warmth and good cheer. In addition to a festive stay close to celebrated Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you'll head out to explore some wonderful places, including the famous Passion Play village, Oberammergau, and Mad King Ludwig's extraordinary Neuschwanstein castle.
WHAT DOES THE PRICE INCLUDE?
Day One: Outbound flight from the UK
Fly to Munich, meet your Tour Manager and drive south towards the mountains and your Christmas hotel, close to the famous resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Settle into your surroundings and enjoy a first evening of Bavarian hospitality.
Day Two: Optional Munich city tour
Today brings opportunities to rest and relax at the delightful hotel, perhaps to take a stroll around the village or a bus into Garmisch, or to join the optional excursion to Munich, with its Gothic Town Hall and its excellent Viktualienmarkt food market. Discover the city's festive atmosphere on a guided tour, then wander the stalls of Marienplatz's colourful Christmas market and perhaps visit the world-renowned Hofbrauhaus for Bavarian beer and sausage. Return to the hotel for the evening.
Day Three: Optional Innsbruck city tour
Christmas Eve's optional excursion brings the chance to cross into Austria to visit Innsbruck, where a guided tour will bring to life the charming Tyrolean capital. Wander its elegant Maria-Thresien-Strasse main street and explore its historic Altstadt (old town) of shops and warming coffee houses.
Later, return to Oberau to begin your Christmas celebrations.
Day Four: Spend Christmas Day in Oberammergau
Enjoy an included visit to Oberammergau, the setting for the world-renowned 'Passion Play', performed every 10 years by townsfolk to audiences from across the globe. Wander through the pretty town, and enjoy a ride to the heights above on the historic Laber Bergbahn cable car, before returning to the hotel for a special Christmas meal.
Day Five: Included visit to Neuschwanstein Castle
Saving the best (or at least the most extravagant) for last, Boxing Day's included excursion reveals the extraordinary sight of the turrets and towers of 'Mad' King Ludwig's famous castle at Neuschwanstein, built high on a rocky crag. Don't miss the chance to stroll across the Marienbrucke for the classic view of this majestic castle, which is just as fantastical inside as out, with Gothic bedrooms and decorations inspired by Wagnerian opera (castle entrance payable locally).
Day Six: Fly back to the UK
Bid farewell to your Bavarian hosts, and transfer back to the airport to check in for your flight home.
European closing times
Shops in Europe will generally close from early afternoon on Christmas Eve until 27th December. Included tours and excursions have been chosen for their scenic or historic value.
Hotel transfer times
The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is 75 minutes.
Combining hotel transfers
We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.
If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.
The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.
Please note that for two people travelling together on one booking, or a single traveller, one piece of hold luggage is included. Additional hold luggage may be purchased at the time of booking at a cost of £40 per bag.
