Our Newmarket Travel Predictions
It’s a classic case of saving the best for last. Group F has been regarded as ‘the group of death’, with France, Portugal, and Germany all being past competition winners. We won’t throw around terms like ‘death’, but instead, we’ll examine these countries in order to crown our winner in wanderlust. In Group F, we have:
We’ve got some heavy hitters here. Portugal truly shines with its colourful capital city, fascinating maritime history, and stunning Algarve region, while France is also comparable, with its global capital, rich naval past, and of course, the French Riviera, or the Côte d'Azur.
Hungary is one of the more underrated travel destinations on the list but still has a fighting chance. The country has been shaped by many cultures over its rich history, having been ruled by the Romans, Mongols, Magyars, Czechs, Ottomans, and the Soviets, making for a melting pot of architecture, cuisine, and art. Germany also represents an interesting mixture of experiences, with a stunning vastness of natural beauty - the natural lake, Königssee, nestled between towering cliffs in Bavaria, and the UNESCO-listed Wadden Sea - and the alternative music and art capital of Berlin.
Portugal! While it’s a fantastic city to visit, the country is so much more than Lisbon. The wine-producing city of Porto is well worth a visit, with its scenic vineyards, rich culture, lively bars, and charming locals. UNESCO-listed Sintra also shouldn’t be missed. The former royal retreat is a unique, colourful haven set amidst a lush national park. It will feel like you’re in a completely different world and era.
Outside the cities, Portugal's scenery varies from mountainous backdrops to rugged windswept coasts. It's a memorable must-visit if you’re a fan of aquamarine swimming spots and locally produced wine.
