Hardangerfjord stretches over 100 kilometres into the Norwegian interior, and this morning Marco Polo heads into its stunning landscape of sheer, forested mountainsides and still waters. Our port here is tiny Eidfjord, an oasis of tranquillity from which you might have the chance to take an optional excursion to the towering Voringfossen waterfalls.

Today Marco Polo calls at Flam in the most remote corner of the largest of all Norway's fjords - Sognefjord. From here, you'll have the chance to board the world famous Flamsbana Mountain Railway to experience the sheer beauty of region as you journey to Myrdal by train.

This idyllic little village is the dropping-off point for a shore excursion, through the almost unimaginably beautiful countryside of Norway's Sogn og Fjordane county, to the famous Briksdal Glacier. This immense cliff of ice is actually just one of the 50 arms of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier, which broods over the entire eastern reach of the Nordfjord.

Bergen is one of the most beautifully located cities in the world. This ancient fishing and trading port, spectacularly set amid hills and fjords, is also one of Northern Europe’s most enjoyable destinations.
