Early summer in the fjords

This wonderful May Day Bank Holiday cruise to Western Norway will feature long, light days – perfect for exploring one of the world’s most stunning regions. Visits to two stunning fjords, shoreside settlements and the colourful city of Bergen make this a bank holiday trip to remember.

Join Magellan as she sails north from Newcastle to Dundee, then across the North Sea to Bergen, unofficial capital of the fjords, its old town lined with wooden buildings. Continue north, along the Nordfjord to picturesque Olden. From here sail south, and to your final call, at Eidfjord, nestled in a breath-taking location on Hardangerfjord, where dense forests cling to towering mountain slopes that rise high above crystal-clear waters.

Your Itinerary

  • Depart: 2100hrs

Board Magellan in Newcastle, today, and settle in to your cabin as she prepares to set sail this evening.

  • Arrive: 0630hrs

    Depart: 1830hrs

Today Magellan calls at the Tayside port-city of Dundee. Explore this historic city, and perhaps visit Captain Scott's Royal Research Ship Discovery – a beautifully restored example of the days when maritime adventures were less luxurious affairs.

  • Spend today relaxing, and getting to know the ship, her crew and your fellow passengers.

  • Arrive: 0700hrs

    Depart: 1600hrs

Compact and friendly, Bergen was once a great trading city within the Hanseatic League. It remains Norway's second city and, despite being sheltered from the sea by its seven hills and outlying islands, is unashamedly nautical in outlook. Visit the vibrant harbour and fish market, stroll past the wooden warehouses of Bryggen and take the Fløibanen funicular to the summit of 'Mount' Fløyen.

  • Arrive: 0800hrs

    Depart: 1700hrs

Today you’ll call at Olden. This is the starting point for an excursion, through scenic countryside, to the famous Briksdal Glacier. This immense cliff of ice is actually just one of the 50 arms of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier, which looms over the entire eastern reach of the Nordfjord.

  • Arrive: 1200hrs

    Depart: 1900hrs

Hardangerfjord stretches over 100 kilometres into the Norwegian interior, and today Magellan heads into its stunning landscape of sheer, forested mountainsides and still waters. Our port here is tiny Eidfjord, an oasis of tranquillity from which you might have the chance to take an optional excursion to the towering Vøringfossen waterfalls.

  • Spend your final full day on board relaxing as Magellan cruises home.

  • Arrive: 0700hrs

Bid farewell to Magellan and all your fellow travellers, today, as you disembark at the end of your cruise.

Days marked above with an anchor include ports where you will be transferred to shore by landing boat. These ports may be inaccessible for customers with mobility difficulties as a result. Any days not listed will be spent at sea.
