Life on board Magellan
There's far more to Magellan than we could possibly fit on this page. Click below to find out more about her cabins, restaurants and other excellent facilities.
WHAT DOES THE PRICE INCLUDE?
Day One: Depart Newcastle
Board Magellan and settle into your cabin before she cruises from Newcastle this evening.
Day Two: Dundee
Today Magellan calls at the Tayside port-city of Dundee. Explore this historic city, and perhaps visit Captain Scott's Royal Research Ship Discovery - a beautifully restored example of the days when maritime adventures were less luxurious affairs.
Day Three: At sea
Spend your first full day at sea enjoying Magellan's excellent on-board facilities and getting to know the crew and your fellow passengers.
Day Four: Torshavn
Torshavn, the tiny capital of the Danish Faroe Islands, is Magellan's destination today. The Faroes are a birdwatchers’ paradise in the heart of the Gulf Stream, and their inhabitants live surrounded by natural beauty. Discover Torshavn’s confusion of lanes and narrow passages, black-tarred houses with turf roofs and modern centre, or join an excursion to another part of the islands, perhaps crossing the famous ‘Bridge across the Atlantic’, which connects the main island of Streymoy with smaller Eysturoy.
Day Five: Eskifjordur
Reaching the east coast of Iceland, today, we’ll call in Eskifjordur, a historic fishing port and charming seaside village on the shores of the Eskifjord. Here, a fascinating Maritime Museum details the region’s long association with the sea, and shore excursions might include a boat tour to remote Mjoifjordur and the fascinating Icelandic Wartime Museum.
Day Six: Akureyri
Akureyri, on Iceland's rugged north coast, is a thriving winter sports centre and home to a fascinating Botanical Garden. The area beyond is wondrously scenic, and today's excursion, to the Godafoss Falls and volcanic Lake Myvatn, will highlight many of its delights.
Day Seven: Isafjordur
This morning Magellan arrives in tiny, exquisite Isafjordur, the capital of the Westfjords area, and gateway to the magical, mystical land of West Iceland from which Norse sailors set out to discover Greenland and the New World.
Days Eight and Nine: Reykjavik
Reykjavik is the world's northernmost capital. Its brightly painted wooden buildings contrast sharply with the stunning beauty of its setting beneath Mount Ejsa. Step ashore to explore, take the lift to the top of the Hallgrimskirkja Church for a panoramic view, or visit the fascinating Arbaer Folk Museum and the Saga Museum.
Days 10-11: At sea
Relax on board and relive the memories your cruise around Iceland as Magellan spends two days at sea, heading home.
Day 12: Lerwick
Our next port is the Shetland capital, Lerwick. Spend time exploring this rugged but enchanting town, or join an excursion to the 3,000 year-old archaeological site at Jarlshof, with its Bronze and Iron Age remains.
Day 13: Invergordon
This morning we'll tie up in the great natural harbour at Invergordon on Scotland's rugged East Coast. Step ashore to explore, or join an optional shore excursion, perhaps to Inverness in search of Nessie. Golfers may head to the fine course at nearby Dornoch, while whisky connoisseurs can make a pilgrimage to the celebrated Glen Ord Distillery.
Day 14: Arrive Newcastle
Bid farewell to Magellan and your fellow travellers, today, as you disembark at the end of your cruise.
Days marked above with an anchor include ports where you will be transferred to shore by landing boat. These ports may be inaccessible for customers with mobility difficulties as a result. Any days not listed will be spent at sea.
